I can’t watch, thank goodness!

None of the top five deserve to be there. And I include Elgar in this because he has contributed to the selection problems.

But it does not matter SA don’t play a 3 test series again until 2026… and by then it really won’t matter.

SA should drop every batsman except Elgar and Verreynne. Start again with Brevis, Mulder and Roussouw if he’s up for it, and take the rest from the new generation rather than drawing on first class. There are certainly others I’m missing.
Why the hell would we choose Roussow as talented as he is it’s going backwards again.

When is Keegan Petersen back from injury? I watched a bit of SA-Ind and he looked good.

I was trying to think who else there was if you know others I didn’t mention then go for it.

Fair point re Petersen too he hasn’t been a total failure.

That is an utterly insane take imo. I get that you are frustrated with the conservatism in South African selection, but moving in the extreme opposite direction and going full Greg Chappell with it is not and will never be the solution to anything, would likely produce similar results while at the same time risking ruining players of high promise by asking too much too soon

The thought of dropping Elgar is absolute lunacy imo

Yep. Similar conditions
Nothing similar whatsoever, Brisbane you could compare to an over ripe marijuana plantation, whereas this deck is actually quite good for batting,
it's just that S.A can't bat, not a single class batsman among them.

Probably by next series… it was a hamstring so don’t know how bad it was Hamza is also available again. And I could name 10 other younger batsmen I would rather see than this dross. They would probably not win either but think they would show a bit more fight and also start gaining experience for the future.

Elgar needs to go aswell , he's on the wrong side of 30 and his struggles away from home have been well documented...Also he's not covered himself in glory with this captaincy gig :

1.He was so stubborn and a touch arrogant to dismiss Bazball style England implemented , Don't worry about other teams style boet look at your own team .

2.The Brisbane wicket , we really did not need to hear him say in the media that he asked the umpire if the wicket was safe for batting after getting destroyed in two days , it made us look like a bunch of sissies

3. Can't inspire his teammates or even rile them up , his response to all these low totals has simply been a shrug of the shoulders , empty words learned in media training and a lack of honesty...Any captain who can be happy with going in with this squad selection is ****ing delusional, how on Earth do you make a batting side WEAKER after that 1st test performance. Absolute filth .

Is it lunacy to drop a batsmen who has averaged 28 since becoming captain...

I’ve always liked him and I don’t know what else he could say about the team etc. without getting sacked.

This has gone from poor selection decisions starting five years ago… at this stage there is no rebuilding a batting unit in an around some experienced players. That time is done.

For entirely unproven rookies, yes

Elgar isn't perfect, but South Africa pretty clearly don't have the batting depth to get away with tossing aside the one guy in this lineup who has shown the ability to perform in Test cricket semi regularly

Yeah it when he's the only Test standard batsman SA have. I can definitely see the argument for taking the captaincy off him given it's affected his batting and he seems to back the poor selection policies, but he absolutely needs to be in the team.

Is averaging 28 since becoming captain "test standard" for an opener though?

It can't be long until Australia join SA in the batting woes. Warner would normally be gone by now if not for Harris as next can of rank. Smith is over. Labu's run of luck must end. Then it's hit or miss with head and green. I don't hear of any proper good talent ready to step in. The future is woe for Australia.

No the future is an Australian boot stamping on a cricketers face, forever. At least at home.

but that’s the lie… SA have plenty of batting talent. They just not getting selected and to now talk about the lack of experience is a choice that was made 5 years ago to pick older ‘experienced’ journeymen rather than choose younger talented batsmen and give them time and support. So now we sit with plenty of talented 23-27 years not getting selected because they lack experience… it circular pathetic thinking of people not taking ownership that they have royally ****ed up SA cricket.
