Wrist spin variation can at times get purchase from non turners. Definitely think he should be in the plans. Unfortunately his lack of batting ability will matter more in his selection.
I think he's a much improved bowler and will definitely feature in away games. Also, Unadkat over Kuldeep for the 2nd game was a great call. Pacers are getting more purchase on this wicket and Axar and Ash are easily our top 2 picks in test matches.

Nothing about his bowling suggests he is gonna trouble good players of spin anyways. That has always been the issue. His spin can look astounding against tailenders and bad players of spin but totally toothless against actually good players of spin, especially those capable of power hitting.

Dude, let him first bowl to these good players of spin na. Why subject him to a preemptive death by hypothesis? As of now you have only one thing to go by: his "Test" stats and they're great. Like you said, he needs long spells to develop any rhythm and only Test match conditions give him that luxury. At least give him the rope he's due to hang himself with.

Ok enough Kuldeepthroating from me...for now.

ODIs again...come on, let's not be disingenuous here. This is just rudderless, visionless man-management all-around. You can talk about conditions-specific selections all day long, but you still picked two spinners regardless. In what universe does dropping the spinner who was your POTM in the game just past make sense? Fine, Ashwin picks himself on the back of 400 wkts , but why is Axar who's only ever played on tailormade pitches at home - pitches, incidentally, from which Yadav was conveniently excluded from in favor of stalwarts like Nadeem and, when played, was given a grand total of 12 overs in the entire game - this sacred cow? And I speak as an Axar fan; really, my ire is with the coach and captain demonstrating zero reasoning for their policies or concern with fostering what is the rarest skill in the game.

Yes. Kuldeep not getting picked for the second game was definitely unfair on him, no amount of wickets from the current bowlers can justify that move.

But like you said, Kuldeep being a part of the squad now gives the bowling attack a different dimension with his left arm leg spin. He should be playing all matches in India as the fifth bowler. But I can't see him getting a game ahead of Sir, Ash and Axar in the aussie series.

... wait you guys actually want to have a spin attack at home which is not Jadeja-Ashwin-Axar? It's rather hard to improve...

I really will never understand this idea that the team management are idiots for reading conditions and making decisions based on them. Like is it cricket you're interested in or cricketers alone?

That may well be the case but we're entitled to rail against the injustice meted out to one man's hopes and dreams, goddamnit! Atleast until bazball comes along to hit him for 200.

What injustice? Is it anymore than not picking Unadkat at any point before now when he toiled in the Ranji and improved there because he had to deal with a queue of Shami, Umesh, Ishant, Bhuvi, Bumrah, Siraj, Saini, etc.? There are options and strategies India likes to use, which involve some rotation of bowlers when necessary, and Kuldeep at the moment isn't exactly far superior to his peers in the role to merit automatic selection constantly. Harsh, sure but it's not like Kuldeep's the only one getting screwed here by general options available and preferences by management (which aren't generally baseless either).

I think this was the worst day for Indian spinners in terms of support:sleep: Axar and Ashwin were close to perfect with their bowling and there was a lot of assistance from the pitch. Our fielding could've been better, Pant should've kept his mouth shut and and some support from the frontline pacers would've been great. Both Umesh and Siraj can bowl really great deliveries but they mix them up with some criminally bad balls, freebies are simply not OK in such low scoring games. Unadkat did well and should've bowled more.

lol come on, they rolled a team for 230 ffs

I get that it wasn't exactly a perfect display of bowling excellence, but calling such a thing "the worst" when I'm sure there are days they've absolutely chased leather is a ****ing ridiculous level of hyperbole to suit your particular selection agenda. Your post is bad and you should feel bad.

I honestly think we were just complacent a lot today and BD caught us napping and have a very good chance to catch us with our pants down tomm.
