i mean i rate kallis but this ponting slander will not stand tbh
Yeah I thought a second about Ponting but the utility of his bowling outranks the difference in their batting.

I would say that those batsmen in the top 5 or maybe 10 of all time would go down as greater cricketers.

yeah tbf to you maybe i'm being overly persnickity because i'd probably say kallis brings more to a team, but i just don't think he's "unquestionably better"; think there are fair arguments either way

I responded to a lot of arguments as you are aware.

I should say that primary argument has always been his raw averages which to me is a silly one. There were secondary arguments, like him batting at no.4 versus no.5 compared Waugh, but other arguments like him batting for a fragile top order were used to defend him rather than present his case.
You're right. I bet no one talked about how he played for a country that was traditionally tough to bat in, how he faced quality bowlers throughout his career, like no one discussed why SA were so slow when it came to batting in tests and few other stuff.

Average is the primary thing they looked at. I bet they must be the same people who rate Voges as the second best batsman in test cricket.

One stupid average difference stat is to blame for Kallis being overrated as an AR. The people who complain about tough batting conditions at home for him don't apply the same to his bowling. He was a batsman who bowled a bit.

So did Hooper idiot.
You're the idiot here. For Hooper, 555 wickets in 339 FC matches is definitely an allrounder, even though his test average was awful. And it's possible for a spinner to bowl more over than a pace bowler, so it's not quite equivalent. It's what Watson bowled when you exclude the matches where he bowled less than ten overs, and I don't remember any one calling him a 'batsman who bowls a bit'.

A 'batsman who bowls a bit' is more like Root or Walters.

No you're an idiot for not figuring out the simple fact that sometimes people exaggerate things in jest. It's clearly always been a sarcastic/trollish comment. I've always considered him a batting AR and sort of the inverse of Pollock/Ashwin but he gets vastly overrated compared to his actual AR output. Now go vent your angst elsewhere.

Isn't it based a significant proportion on his prolificness. i.e., he has a very similar number of runs to Ponting/Dravid but also 300 wickets to boot.
Turns out averages, runs and wickets have nothing to do with cricketing ability ??

Kallis was a batting all-rounder who was a fifth seamer and hence didn't need to bowl too much. He gets overrated when compared to guys like Imran and Sobers who were more accomplished in their secondary disciplines.
