That's the problem though - the soft signal. Why do umpires have to give a soft signal, when they're clearly not sure if it's out or not.

They don't give a soft signal for a run out or stumped yet if a catch in the deep, some 70 yards away, is touch and go, they have to give a soft signal, when clearly they have no real idea.

This can then massively impact the decision the TV umpire gives.

Do away with the soft signal and if the TV umpire can't make a decision then the batsman gets the benefit of the doubt.

If Ahmed plays, all the best, but it could ruin him for the rest of his career if it goes south. Can anyone point to a case where throwing a young legspinner into test cricket worked out? Other than Warne, perhaps Kaneria?

Well, Abrar Ahmed did alright in the previous test.

Good luck to Ahmed. The difference between previous leg spin debuts and now is he has a captain who knows how to manage players. Stokes has been very impressive in that department this year.

I thought they might gamble with Ahmed instead of Jacks as he seems a reasonable bat and with enough bowlers they could ease him in. But the management obviously reckon he can handle the pressure. Stokes must have held himself back with the ball before in expectation of this change if they won the series.

First England test cricketer to be younger than my son. And he's only just got used to Bellingham being the first footballer to fit that criteria.

I get your point it has been disastrous for England on a number of occasions, but we generally throw them in on a demoralised team that has already been heavily defeated. I think this is a bit different, we could lose the Test and it's no big deal.
