Incredible stupid to go with a 'plan' that accentuates both England's strengths and Pakistan's weaknesses so much. Raja and the administration really should be castrated for the nonsensical selections and planning. I can't express how moronic it is to manufacture the perfect storm for getting Bazball'd.

Doesn't detract from England's brilliance and relentlessness, mind.

But don't you want to see Babar make a ton at home?

To be honest, I'd have taken 4 down by close as a good return for Day 1.

The fact that they've scored about 250 more runs than their normal day 1 is quite frankly a bonus.

They keep this up and we'll be longing for a return to the days of Root coming in at 25-3 just to keep it interesting!

Well fck me. I woke up and saw England had 500 +. So I assumed that it was day 2 or something. Well played England, well played.

Tomorrow could be even more brutal than today.

With Stokes and Brook still in and Livingstone and Jacks to come, the scoring rate certainly won't be coming down.

We could easily be all out for about 600 as we'll be ultra attacking but equally we could rack up 750 in no time at all.

Then the match will really begin, can Pakistan bat to save the match - my money says they will.

England have 2.5 bowlers on a road. If Pak can't bat out in this match, they never will.

The day ending early was ‘good’ for Pakistan, means Stokes and Brook have to get set again. But if they do, more carnage.

I was in disbelief when I checked the scorecard but had to follow up with highlights after work to be able to process it.

I have been following the game since 1999/2000 and have witnessed many roads specifically the ones where Sehwag hammered 254 and Afridi tonking Harbhajan for 5 sixes an over.

But the pitch today has exceeded my expectations on how dull a pitch can get. Literally there have been instances where batsmen just touched the ball without a follow through and the ball zooms for four!

And the last few overs with Stokes batting was all comedy.

Literally your batters missed out a chance to break Lara's record. You can't get better batting conditions than this!
This is as ridiculous as Hinton's jingoism, there have been literally hundreds of pitches as flat as this in Test Cricket, it's still an achievement to score the most runs ever on the First day, in only 75 overs.

'Hundreds' is an exaggeration, some of the flattest decks like Adelaide still had reasonable bounce to give some assistance, Feroz Shah Kotla did aid spin a bit. Never seen a pitch like today's in an international game, but then I don't claim to have watched every international game as well.

Just think in an alternate universe we might of been seeing dom sibley make 90* off 280 balls today.
Kinda mad not just that there were 4 centurions on day 1 of the test, but that they were Crawley, Duckett, Pope and Brook. No Root, Stokes, Bairstow. Great news for England.

I was merely repeating your use of literally, when it clearly isn't, but hey I dunno, in the history of Test Cricket it maybe true.

The fact is though at no point did Pakistan bowl with any form of discipline or accuracy, so it's hard to judge how flat it is if you tried to create pressure. It is very flat though, not denying that. Yet let's not forget there were many incredibly dull draws on the subcontinent for many years. Making absolutist statements about anything being the best or worst when it's conjecture though is pointless. If Pakistan bat similarly then we'll re-evaluate.

It was a flat deck but its still a hell of an achievement from England.

Now as an England fan, you may say I'm biased.

But in England, Sangakarra was in the studio and said exactly the same.

There have been a shed load of such pitches over the years and no team has done what we did today.

Now that doesn't mean we will win the test match or the series. It certainly doesn't mean we'll win next summers Ashes.

But it was one heck of a day's play from England and whether you're an England fan or hate England, I think the achievement should be acknowledged.
