England test tour of Pakistan December 2022

Literally your batters missed out a chance to break Lara's record. You can't get better batting conditions than this!
You are underestimating current English line up on flat wickets under Mccullum.

If you give the same wicket to India of 2005 , Sehwag would score 250 on 210 balls, Dravid would score 120 on 240 balls . Team total around 375 in 75 overs

Similarly Australia of 2000-07 would score 400 runs in 75 overs . 25 runs extra due to Ponting more aggressive batting than Dravid and Hayden slightly less aggressive batting than Sehwag.

But in current England team everyone is trying to bat like Sehwag/Gilchrist/Mccullum.
While individually they might not be as talented as these guys but their team effort is producing these 100 extra runs .

Where did the Pakistan uncle meme derive from? I associate Nauman Ali as your archetypal 'uncle' being a mid 30s spinner plucked from domestic cricket

Was it Misbah captaincy era or previous generations ala Afridi, Hafeez, Razzaq, Shoaib Malik etc

It was a flat deck but its still a hell of an achievement from England.
Hell yes it is. Flat as it may be, they still showed the approach to move the game ahead and the ability to do it. It might be flat as f*ck but if you score 700 or whatever batting first, that's mentally hard to reply to.

One of the things I think is worth trumpeting about this new England approach, whether it's Baz/Stokes/whoever, is they clearly value winning every Test match and producing an exciting brand over the old model of basing all their self-worth around the Ashes. We can see this approach won't work and needs to be dialled back against Australia...but they just go out to score runs and take wickets against whoever the next opponent is. That's always been a hallmark of Baz, he doesn't look too far ahead - the next game is the one he wants to win. It'll end in tears at times (it did for NZ during his reign) but it's good fun and doing nothing to damage the Test cricket brand in people's eyes.

Also, seriously, if England declare before 700 (unless they collapse, fairly unlikely one thinks) I will be very disappointed. Don't think any team has ever created an opportunity to pound an opponent like this before.

To think people complained about the pitch at Ahmedabad last year! This pitch is dreadful for Test Cricket.

Flat wicket or not that is just a remarkable day of batting.

Like everyone else (bar Chris hinton) it's hard to realy rate or know where this England side stands right now, but fmd the train is certainly steaming along. What is it now.....8 tests under Stokes/B Mac? 6 wins (this one in the drivers seat) which must have 5 or 6 wtf performances amongst them.

I'm sure we'll come unstuck plenty of times but these sure are fun times.

It's almost like they've gone "We've been great at white-ball cricket, poor at Test cricket . . . let's just play white ball cricket in Tests and see if it works"

It isn't if you've made better than a run a ball ton on it tbf.

Credit has to go to the batting side when something like this happens though. You need a confluence of bad bowling on a flat deck to be able to do something like that, but it's still a massive day out.
