tbf we would have less trouble accepting him as better than ponting if his career average was 75.I don't think anyone has ever said that Kallis' batting average wasn't high enough

Eh still pretty big difference. Ponting was obviously better and I'm tired of pretending it's close.Impressive rounding! (it's 12.75)
It's definitely close. Ponting even in that period has a pretty big skew in his home vs away record. And his home conditions were pathetically flat with tons of overseas batsmen also scoring heavily. Kallis has a way better away record, his home conditions were miles tougher. Picking Ponting just because he hit more fours is weak.Eh still pretty big difference. Two guys who average the same but one scores massively more quickly than the other is an obvious choice. It's much easier to average 50 batting slowly. How many guys have a strike rate around 60 or more in that average range? It's just Ponting, Vv and Lara. Nerds pretend otherwise but scoring your runs quickly is self evidently hugely important. Also, Ponting didn't get to play minnows. It's definitely close. Ponting even in that period has a pretty big skew in his home vs away record. To be fair, there's a whole world cup to be won in there.Picking Ponting just because he hit more fours is weak.
So do you use the same logic for Sehwag vs Hayden/Smith ?Two guys who average the same but one scores massively more quickly than the other is an obvious choice. Conveniently choosing to ignore my point .i.e how flat his home pitches were. Two guys who average the same but one scores massively more quickly than the other is an obvious choice. I'm annoyed that you think this was some gotcha but yes I do, 100%.So do you use the same logic for Sehwag vs Hayden/Smith ?

He played Zim/Bangladesh exactly the same amount as Kallis in their peak periods. Also, the bowling attacks Ponting bashed at home were some of the worst I've ever seen. Agarkar, Prasad, Ganguly as the fourth seamer in 99, Agarkar, Nehra, baby Zaheer in 03 and the might Vinay Kumar and co in 2012. The bowling in these series was abonimable and he filled his boots and averaged 100+ in all 3 series.
Nah I actually rate Smith higher than Sehwag . Because if Sehwag had averaged around 40 in ENG/NZ with a strike rate of 50 instead of 80, team would’ve benefited lot more.I'm annoyed that you think this was some gotcha but yes I do, 100%.
He averaged 66, you are using 2009 instead of 2007.All-round records | Test matches | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPNcricinfo.com

Kallis averaged 59 in his peak without minnows. Ponting was epic in SA too. He would still have dominated if he swapped places with Kallis. Kallis's away record isn't that much better than Ponting anyway. And once you've decided to deploy in the bad bowler from top 8 nation bad like 00s Bangladesh slippery slope you've already lost. Bye.
Only for ENG/NZ . Just see out 1st 6 to 7 overs before starting hitting. If you asked Sehwag to bat at a strike rate of 40 instead of 80, his average wouldn’t improve. It would actually drop.
6 points lower still. Probably should've copied it somewhere instead of going from memory. Not a good day for me quoting things from memory. He averaged 66, you are using 2009 instead of 2007.
That's not a slippery slope, you're just annoyed I pointed out rightly that Ponting bashed sub-standard attacks too.And once you've decided to deploy in the bad bowler from top 8 nation bad like 00s Bangladesh slippery slope you've already lost. Bye.
It's unfortunate that you commented on OS's bad bowler from top nation thing because it was possible to make him average 59 again if you just removed Windies as well. :P6 points lower still.
