Tendulkar only took my vote because I met him and got his autograph. It’s a 50-50 otherwise.

Tendulkar also faced Imran, Saqlain, Botham I'm sure (played in 92 WC).

The game is easier to follow on TV and much better on TV for a purist that enjoys bowling tactics in terms of line and length. If you aren’t in the right position live you can’t really grasp the game.

Read it through. Interesting discussion regarding batting s/r

I don't mind players with a limited stroke range like Waugh, Cook going about it slowly but my beef with Jacques was that (If I had one) he could have batted like Ponting if he wanted but opted not to for all of his career except probably the last 3 years.

And before someone mention how difficult the batting was in South Africa, his away S/R (44) was lower than his home S/R. Great player but certainlt not a top tier ATG like Tendulkar

Nobody really believes he’s as good as Tendulkar. People just voted him to piss off subshakerz and it worked perfectly.

Agreed, Kallis had all the shots but he certainly played within himself. He smashed what was the fastest test 50 at the time v Zimbabwe in 2005.

But for whatever reason (and I partly agree with StephenZA here) Kallis had to be more of an anchor, rather than a strokemaker, although he certainly had the talent and strokes to be one of the entertainers.

I saw him described once as a roundhead in an era of cavaliers, and I think that sums it up quite nicely.

The thing is that Tendulkar often had to play that anchor role too and it's not like he was batting on steroids every innings. But he had the ability to step it up when he needed to.

The main critique is not just Kallis' slow batting but that he chose not to accelerate especially when when the match situation demanded.

The point I was trying to make was that some people used the excuse of helpful home decks as the reason for Kallis's slow S/R when he was even slower away. Imo he just batted slowly regardless of the conditions. Its also worth noticing that he has extremely high proportion of sixers especially compared to a guy who has such a low S/R which, without diving too much into stats, means there must be a lot blocks.

What really kicked in the last 3 years do you think? Was it Amla's coming good?
