International Debutant
The crap race quota and the old kolpak thing I know it’s gone now but really hurting South Africa cricket.
Until the current t20 domestic tournament he did not have a single 50 in t20s. I like the guy and think he can do great things but selecting him off that record would be crazyWhy Dewald Brevis was not part of this team is baffling
I agree , and unfortunately we are a touch conservative when it comes to selecting youngsters compared to Asians .. sometimes you gotta make spontaneous decisions ..he bowls handy leggies aswell !Brevis warrants selection on talent.
again that talent hasn’t really produced results until this domestic tournament. Just because Bavuma is in the lineup does not mean Brevis will be a straight swap for him in an ideal worldBrevis warrants selection on talent.
You do know that India refuses to select Shaw even now despite him boasting similar stats with a lot more experience under his belt right? Pakistan only picked Haris after Zaman was ruled out and their middle order was still looking crap while Bangladesh keeps going back to the same names every two years on a cycleI agree , and unfortunately we are a touch conservative when it comes to selecting youngsters compared to Asians .. sometimes you gotta make spontaneous decisions ..he bowls handy leggies aswell !

Would there have been all these calls for his selection if he hadn't made that century?that record century
India hands out debuts like freebies, having a few games does not matter much. Shaw’s debut was when India had very less good test openers too and it was a hail mary play. It is the matter of being in the team after the debut that matters in India. Pakistan and Bangladesh in the past have had big age fraud issues, I wouldn’t take those 17 year old claims at face value. A lot of Pakistan’s young debutants are also because their older players are crap at that point. Bangladesh works on a principle of either sink or swim with their youngsters and seldom picks a new experienced option out of nowhere. I wouldn’t want to copy their model anyway, they have nothing significant in their cricket historyShaw has been capped for India before and I'm talking generally , Pakistan have a lot of 17 year old debutants as do Bangladesh ...How old was Tendulkar picked when he represented India ? ..You would hardly see that from SA even if the player was supremely talented ...Also India have an embarrassment of batting resources right now so why would they pick Shaw ...They don't even pick Pant who would walk into the SA team .
Barring the odd call from the fairweather ipl fan, probably not. His season otherwise was decent to good but not selection worthyWould there have been all these calls for his selection if he hadn't made that century?
Parnell was actually good with the ball though. I didn’t think SA would have won the tournament with de Kock being out of form and the injuries to van der Dussen and Pretorius but backed them to at least qualify for semisI thought SA would win the whole thing before the tournament started. Looked like the most complete team. Every team has at least one or two selection issues so Bavuma and Parnell weighing the side down wasn't an exclusively SA problem. Hendricks can come in for Bavuma and there's at least 3 guys who can replace Parnell. The issue is the big names going missing. At the end of the day, it's just T20 and any side can be upset. VDD was a massive loss too.
Not a #7 at all. An SA team with a weak tail is a crime against humanity.Parnell was actually good with the ball though. I didn’t think SA would have won the tournament with de Kock being out of form and the injuries to van der Dussen and Pretorius but backed them to at least qualify for semis
I thought Parnell was great for SA. Their second best bowler after NortjeI thought SA would win the whole thing before the tournament started. Looked like the most complete team. Back in the glorious 90s, Parnell would have batted 11 for them. Not a #7 at all. An SA team with a weak tail is a crime against humanity.
Back in the glorious 90s, SA still was chokingBack in the glorious 90s, Parnell would have batted 11 for them.
7 SajidNot a #7 at all.
Hulk will probably still be around for the next WC but yeah Mulder should be given a go based on good domestic performances recently. Is there any way to get Mulder back amongst the T20 team? His batting has improved leaps and bounds over the past 6 months. I would say that or pick linde to balance the side at 7, but lindes bowling has fallen off a cliff since he got dropped from the national team.
The thing is that domestically he plays as a batting allrounder. I don't think we will see Mulder at 5 for SA right now. If he is stuck at 7,is he the guy to blast quick 20s and 30s?Hulk will probably still be around for the next WC but yeah Mulder should be given a go based on good domestic performances recently.
