I'm not bigging up Patel. I actually showed he really struggled in his international career, but for one month starred in the 92 World Cup. Mediocre players can still play remarkably well at times. As if bigging up Chris Harris wasn't bad enough.....
Dipak the better umpire though.Kumar Dharmasena I suppose will qualify. (Still a better batsman and bowler than Deepak Patel)

But you don't deny bigging up Chris HarrisI'm not bigging up Patel. I actually showed he really struggled in his international career, but for one month starred in the 92 World Cup. Mediocre players can still play remarkably well at times.
Harry was an ATVG ODI allrounder (not ATG though). That's all I'll say.But you don't deny bigging up Chris Harris
Never realized Harris and Dharmasena are at the same level as players. Harris better ODI batsman, Dharmasena better test bowler. I thought Dharmasena was frank crap, but now to see he is as same bracket with Harris is a surprise.Harry was an ATVG ODI allrounder (not ATG though). That's all I'll say.
Weren't they most of the time. Headley played as much as he could with injury. The rest played a lot except for maybe Such.Yeah, certainly true for Croft and Giles
And Cork, Defreitas, the Hollioakes were all attempts at another Botham. Even Gough after his debut 50 I imagine sparked some hope
They were way too focused on non specialists in the 90s
Caddick/Fraser/Malcom/Gough/Headley Tufnell/Such should have basically been the pool of bowlers they stuck to. Got too funky too often
Lol.Never realized Harris and Dharmasena are at the same level as players. Harris better ODI batsman, Dharmasena better test bowler. I thought Dharmasena was frank crap, but now to see he is as same bracket with Harris is a surprise.
And Dharmasena was not far behind Harris on the field too. One of the rocket throwing arms SL had in late 90s.
You must think lowly of them…With all the posturing going on here I can not recall the names of Benaud, Davidson or Keith Miller being mentioned . Far superior than Ali as an allrounder
I'm saying all those no rounders barely deserved a go at all. What did Ben Hollioake do to ever deserve a cap really. And people like Salisbury got way too many testsWeren't they most of the time. Headley played as much as he could with injury. The rest played a lot except for maybe Such.
Look Emburey, Edmonds, Croft, Hemmings were are best spinners, in county Cricket alongside Tufnell. Malcolm averaged pretty poorly with the ball, Cork and Defreitas were better bowlers.
Look after uncovered wickets, and before DRS and more sensible umpiring came along, being a finger-spinner was not easy in England, and TBH most of the rest of the World.
If you want to talk no-rounders there are plenty, Ealham, Irani, Capel, Watkinson, Adam Hollioake gawd I've probably blanked out a few, but in general we weren't very good, so couldn't pick good players.
Think you're being pretty funky in finding a narrative that doesn't exist.
His loopy doopys to go with the dibbly dobblys of the medium pacers worked a treat in that tournament till Inzamam came along.1992 CWC
vs Aus 10 overs, 1 for 36
vs Eng 10 overs, 2 for 26
vs Ind 10 overs, 2 for 29
vs Pak 10 overs, 0 for 25 & 10 overs, 1 for 50
vs SAf 10 overs, 1 for 28
vs SL 9 overs, 0 for 32
vs WI 10 overs, 1 for 19
vs Zim DNB
For one month (on the biggest stage) he was the best ODI spinner in the world. Opened the bowling too.
Wouldn't disagree, add Bicknell to it and that was a good attack to use and the only good things we had in the 90s was a great keeper and a good opening pair so of course we decided to drop the keeper and split the openers up to play Hick/Crawley who averaged about 5 more than Russell anyway.I'm saying all those no rounders barely deserved a go at all. What did Ben Hollioake do to ever deserve a cap really. And people like Salisbury got way too many tests
Should have just been like Caddick/Gough/Fraser/Tuffers the whole time when available. Russell full time keeper, Stewart opening the batting
Lol Dharmasena was just below Mahanama / Dilshan / Jonty / Ponting level. Infact end of 90s SL out fielded all the sides with exception of SAF and AUS with ease. We were world champs for many reasons other than for explosive batting.Lol.
Harris was Jonty/Ponting level in the field (just below Roger Harper and Symonds).
