I wondered about this. Whether it might be because it's a WC and they're looking for someone there to anchor things if wickets are lost. Not an awful theory but it hinders things when you're actually in decent shape, wickets-wise.
It also really doesn't explain Finch from an Aus POV, I guess though his is just a decline of a once great LO player rather than a strategic pick of someone who bats slower

And in KL Rahul's case I'm truly baffled , cause he has T20 hundreds and he's absolutely smashed bowling attacks in his career in this format opening the batting...
What are the batting coaches or the head coaches doing? Nobody seems to be tapping these top order bats on the shoulder and saying "Come on man we need more from you your SR is not acceptable" ...I mean Rahul himself should be able to figure it out , he didn't get selected for India playing like this ..Is it a case of giving a player enough rope to hang himself? Pretty toxic!

Don't think so, it's just a coincidence imo.
Nissanka and Rahul were not outlandish picks. Finch and KW only picked because the selectors appear indebted to them for some reason. Bavuma for political reasons.
Add to that bowling friendly conditions and you have this shitshow we're seeing.
