England players and selection discussion thread

I think it's an appalling squad, but probably an okay side. We just aren't going to play two spinners I think, and Root will bowl about 10 overs an innings.

Jennings
Crawley
Pope
Root
Brook
Stokes
Foakes
Robinson
Overton/Wood
Leach
Anderson

It's okay I reckon, nothing more or less
I think the team you've picked is decent, aye, will be happy if they go with that. I think the squad selection shows their intention at the moment is to play one of Livingstone/Jacks though. We'll see...

Wow that's a stinker. While I suspect he probably in fact does bowl too slowly to succeed internationally, Parkinson must feel pretty ****.

I suppose the flat decks will give Crawley a boost. Might get his FC average above 30 again.

I hate to say it as I’m a fan but the Livingstone selection has shades of Ian Blackwell going to India in 06

Yeah this is fine but it makes it weird that they have not brought more pace bowlers.

Strangely I look at that line up and think, yeah the batting isn’t too bad but does the attack have enough…

If the pitches are like they were for the Australia series then they are obviously going to really struggle to take wickets.

Root will have to score a million runs.

Especially as it is 3 back- to- back Tests. Usually a squad is 16 but only 15 makes me think they will see if any of the Lions bowlers look good and add one at a later date.

You mean like the last Ashes? They were the greenest pitches I've seen. If there anything like that this series you won't even need Leach.

I think Livingstone's worth a punt personally. Back him to be a better test batsman than the Golden Boy.

This England regime will roll the dice and try new things and there's nothing wrong with that.

Surely Dawson would be a much better option as a spinning norounder than Jacks (which says more about Jacks than Dawson, but all the same).
I'm really shocked he wasn't picked. I don't think he's great or anything - I don't even think he's good - but he's better at everything in red ball cricket than Jacks by a long way, and he does seem to have improved his game lately. I guess turning it the same way as Leach might have counted against him, but they've only picked *one* specialist spinner in the squad which is another oddity.

A lot was said about Livingstone's selection but I don't actually hate that as a punt so much - he was a properly good red-ball batsman back before he became a T20 circuit star, and he did well for the Lions at times too. That was a while ago now so it definitely is a punt, but it's a punt I can see some upside to.

Jacks ahead of Parkinson and Dawson is so weird though.

Dawson not even in the Lions squad. Not that I'm a huge fan particularly, but neither can I see what Patterson-White and Carson have done to get in ahead of him. At least Dawson has been playing Div 1 cricket.

Wtf does Sam Hain have to do to get a go?

Scored over 1100 runs @ 63 and small change and still has a List A average north of 50.
