Don't know about that but Snow and Willis still managed to do well wicket-wise. I think if you add Underwood it is a quality attack overall, not just Viv feasting on a a limp English bowling lineup.
Willis only played in the last 2 tests of the 5 match series though. Did well at Headingly, but less so at The Oval. He was famously unfit until Greig gave him a bollocking during the subsequent winter tour. Snow did well, but he was past his best, and he wasn't selected at the start of the following season. The England attack wasn't bad in 1976; guys like Hendrick and Old weren't hopeless at all. But it would be a mistake to look at the names and think they were all at their peak.

The claim isnt that it was an ATG attack. But like Smith in 2019, Richards took a good attack apart in a run marathon which is what was impressive.

2019 Ashes had much harder bowling conditions than the '76 summer though.

Really? Wickets were flat for both but then bouncers were unrestricted and again Viv wore very little protection. Smith might have died if he played in '76

Interesting discussion regarding their batting against pace bowlers. Did a search on their respective performances against teams which had at least one ATG/ATG level pacer in the opposition team and came up with these

Viv

Flawed method obviously but still worth a look. Should have added Willis perhaps. Similar number of games over all with the criteria placed but Viv faced few less ATG or bowlers who maintained that level for long.

Interesting
To what extent can SRT’s low average can be attributed to his tennis elbow phase and his terminal decline?

He also faced worse on average as well: Zim/ Ban
Sure but we're not comparing them on overall averages at all. No one thinks Tendulkar was better because he averaged 2 points more. I think bowling strength was comparable for their careers largely.

I remember the ball hooping around corners in the first test. Lord's was flat yeah but the other tests weren't IIRC.

SRT’s average is hardly affected if you remove Zim/ BD from his record: 51 vs 53.

Those two teams represent tiny portion of overall number of games.

I don’t have any sympathy about sports injury. Also, SRT played Steyn well after tennis elbow and did okay.
Fair, if you are on the field you must be evaluated without any concessions ?‍♂ Didn't SRT and Steyn play each other after he was on his way towards a 2nd late peak though, in a phase distinct from his tennis elbow one?

Again, SRT struggling against two Ws is a myth.

Against Donald, he got out cheap but also managed to score two of his career best hundreds.

Viv’s best performance gotta be him opening against Tommo and Lillie at their their peak in 75-76 and scoring 101, 50, 98 in three innings.

From all accounts, those two were trying to kill the opposition batsmen. Sadly, there is no footage available of that series.

16 games isn't tiny. I honestly believe if you gave Viv or even Lara that many games vs Ban/Zim they'd increase their averages by at least 3 runs.

Maybe try watching rather than looking at the scorecards. No hard to see both were well off their best.

Elbow thing was from 03 to 07 right

Probably the period he played least ATG bowlers. Off topic but Tendulkar's second coming was amazing.

There are definite flaws in his record.

However, piling up runs against BD and Zim would be the last thing that would come to my mind when thinking about it.

A small amount of footage came to light a few months ago. It’s not a huge amount, but it’s more than I ever expected to see.
