I've not watched most of it, but I did see some of the play during England's 1st innings collapse after tea and I thought it was awful. We've all seen worse collapses in terms of runs for wickets, but Brook's shot (no doubt under instruction) was just shocking, as yet again was the captain's innings.

Re my find of that 95 game, I managed to find an England tail yesterday as well of:

Fraser (ave 7)
Watkin (ave 5)
Such (ave 6)
Malcolm (ave 6)

80s/90s are my sweet spot!!
I hadn't seen Brook's shot until I looked it up just now. Not great, but people can make poor choices on debut. I suspect his instructions were to play his natural game, which isn't unreasonable, and I gather that he is an attacking batsman. I wouldn't choose to pick him out tbh.

As for the 80s/90s, I remember them well. Apart from the bits I've forgotten, clearly. And we do seem to be picking a retro lower order nowadays. But I'm not sure what can be done about that given the players at our disposal.

Can't blame the bowlers. South Africa were 80 for 1, they had a platform, and the bowlers did their job this morning keeping the lead down.
Yeah it's basically Elgar and then 5 other batsmen until you get to the wicket-keeper. You can't win Test series when you only score one fifty the whole series.

The whole tempo after tea from England was hectic, at a time where they should have been consolidating a lead. Brook played very nicely before tea and then played that shot straight after the break, and it was typical of the hurried approach England were taking during that hour. I don't blame Brook. I actually don't mind the tempo the last 45 minutes or so, with some watchful batting coupled with a rush for the line which I don't think's that unusual in this situation.

Anyway, I reckon an over each from Zondo and Petersen should do it. Otherwise, we're coming back tomorrow.

EDIT
Nope, Elgar didn't get the memo. Maybe the Saffers fancied another day in the capital.

Disappointing performances from SA in this series, not only is this comfortably the worst batting side that we've seen in England this summer, but also the worst one SA has sent to England since readmission. Something is wrong with any domestic system where Kyle Verreynne averages 50+. England's batting has its own issues, not least the fact that Lees and Crawley, will likely go on to play in Pakistan, but positions 3-6 are at least occupied by test class cricketers.

Pakistan have some of the best batting tracks, if not the best batting tracks, in international cricket at the moment. These guys, esp. Crawley, may enjoy themselves there.
