I fully appreciate and buy into the "WCs >>>>>>>> else" mentality when rating current ODI players, and basically all those after roughly the 2011 WC. I do not understand it at all for players in the 90s when non-WC ODIs were still serious, competitive international fixtures taken seriously by players, boards and public.

He played in three other WC finals and WC semis and you would expect some other major performances.

You're probably remembering all Gilchrist's other innings against SL cause he slapped Murali around plenty of other times but that wasn't one of them

Murali was 44 off 7 overs for no wickets in the final. Wow what a performance.

Anyways, you want to consider Murali a big match player, by all means. I think the evidence is that he more often fails to turn up.

I agree somewhat. I am not saying ignore an overall career just in favor of WCs.

Yeah it's this for me too.

ODIs these days are so low intensity and so rarely against full strength sides that I just don't rate the quality, but I think there's a difference between that and just deciding to disregard entire bodies of work for a few games in such a high variance sport that already suffers from sample sizes too small because you want your players to be cLuTcH.

I don't have a problem with posters putting Murali ahead of Warne because of his overall record because it is significantly better. In fact, to me, it is touch and go between them. But I think Warne's WC performances are definitely a point in his favor.

Warne got hammered for 58 runs in 10 overs when the usual RPO was 4.5 at the time. **** happens.

Ya, Jamodis used to not be a real thing. ODIs counted. I actually used to think a random ODI bilateral counted nearly as much as tests. Clearly, you can dismiss this opinion (correctly) by calling me an idiot. Thing is though, my idiocy remains, but my opinion on Jamodis is well different.
