2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham

An easy win. Easing down at the end when we had it in the bag. A full ten gold medals more than the soap dodgers.

Also, according to CW lore, Australia's medals count for more because they were won away from home. That's how it works.
You'd think that, but you're forgetting about Australia pool-spam which counts as playing in favourable conditions.

Obviously the true measure of a good performance is a rounded record. So if we take the definitely not arbitrary measurement of how many sports did nations win 2+ gold medals in, it comes out as England 12 and Australia 8. As such the only conclusion can be that England was better.

It's definitely ridiculous how many of Australia's golds came in the "marquee" sports though, which I'd say are probably (at least in the UK) swimming, athletics, gymnastics and track cycling.

44 golds compared to England's 18.

Omitting sports the opposition is good at is always a reasonable thing to do to even stuff up. Love it. I do it all the time too!

178 v 176 = "dominating and comfortably winning the medal tally"?

COMMONWEALTH GAMES MEDALS TALLY (FINAL)

1. Australia — 67, 57, 54, 178

2. England — 57, 66, 53, 176

Congratulations to ALL athletes who competed and gave their all. A pox on the media and those who think that medal tallies are the b all and end all.
More silvers is just an indication of what we already know - England excel at coming 2nd.

Thank **** there wasn't a reference to throwing a bloody javelin. Or worse, shot put.

Enjoyed these games more than I was expecting I would. Well done to Birmingham, the organisers and most importantly all the athletes for delivering a pretty engrossing couple of weeks.

Ozzy and Tony Iommi on stage together in the closing ceremony was icing on the cake. :notworthy

Doesn't sound like any other Australian state or NZ wants to step in either.

How in the blue blazes does it cost AU$7bn to host a two-week sporting competition. Are they planning on building a few stadia for AFL in Hobart from the programme? That's insanity.

To put it in perspective, the 2022 Games in Birmingham were estimated to cost £780m, it is thought it added about £870m to the UK Economy.

Even if those figures are estimates, they're still hugely different to the Australian costs. What on earth were they building there??? Surely the main infrastructure already exists.

they were doing a funky thing of building it in a few regional centres even though decentralisation is dumb
