Coz for some reason we have wrist spin boners as our selectors.Axar's ER is better than Chahal in every format by a substantial margin. Plus Axar can (more than) hold the bat. Don't know why he is not first choice spinner.
Because wrist spinners are far more likely to take wickets in the middle overs? This isn’t the 90s where you can get by with spinners just playing an economical roleAxar's ER is better than Chahal in every format by a substantial margin. Plus Axar can (more than) hold the bat. Not really... SA have Maharaj & BD basically is owning teams with finger spinners.. Akeal Hossain is highest wicket taker in ODIs this year. Chahal is quite inconsistent in ODIs tbh.Because wrist spinners are far more likely to take wickets in the middle overs? And we won the 2011 WC without a wrist spinner for most games too.Not really... SA have Maharaj & BD basically is owning teams with finger spinners.. Akeal Hossain is highest wicket taker in ODIs this year. Chahal is quite inconsistent in ODIs tbh.
Wrist spin era is on a decline.
Maybe in Aus with big boundaries they are a advantage or else u need to be Rashid Khan level to succeed everywhere.
Exactly.. Teams come up big hitting left handers in middle overs these days. Chahal doesn't really has a great googly either. That makes slog sweep a easy option against him.And we won the 2011 WC without a wrist spinner for most games too.
i put to you that this doesn't demonstrate the value of ODIs but rather of a Strong West IndiesNice win and a good exciting couple of ODI games just as there was talk around the format being scrapped. Nice timing, universe and cricketing gods.
Except SA also have Shamsi who is their wicket taking spinner and is also the one who plays ahead of Maharaj when they have all of their three talented pacers even if Maharaj can more than hold the bat. Bangladesh have won games on surfaces that have been spin friendly, sometimes excessively so. They’re also a credible ODI outfit that somehow everyone seems to forget with good finger-spinners who don’t just play a economical role like most other sides do. They are also trained to bowl aggressively and look for wickets. Their best bowlers for me have been their two left-armed pacers. And finally, this is the same side that desperately wanted a wrist spinner so much in the past that they played a batsman as a bowler just because he could do so. The moment they discover a promising wristie, they will lose their marbles and go for him again. Not really... SA have Maharaj & BD basically is owning teams with finger spinners.. Sure I’m all for selecting the finger-spinner if this was 2011 and there was only one new ball per innings. But it isn’t. Might as well select a dibbly dobbler military medium pacer just because it was the fashion in the 90s.And we won the 2011 WC without a wrist spinner for most games too.
No one is saying Play Axar & Jadeja together as they are indeed quite similiar. Point is that Finger spin is still relevant & more than matching up wrist spin in ODIs.Except SA also have Shamsi who is their wicket taking spinner and is also the one who plays ahead of Maharaj when they have all of their three talented pacers even if Maharaj can more than hold the bat. Hosein has also bowled the most overs in this year by a significant margin. Why don’t you bring up his strike-rate and compare that to the other spinners? There’s a reason why West Indies are shoehorning Walsh in whenever they can because they know that if he comes good the upside is far more than what the other domestic finger-spinners can ever provide even if Walsh is terribly crap. Calling wrist-spin to be in decline is nuts on the basis of Chahal being clobbered. Fyi, Chahal isn’t the only wrist spinner in the country. If he sucks the solution is to select the next best wrist-spinner and see how they fare rather than go for another finger-spinner.
How will Axar and Jadeja even play in the same side when they are so similar anyways? Seems like everyone is forgetting this
Will be interesting if Dhawan will make it to 2023 WC. His reflexes are on decline for sure. Dhawan misses a lot of balls that are stump directed. Nor has he been able to play straight. Sides are blocking his square if the wicket strokes while keeping boundary riders.Just watching the highlights, that's gotta be up there with one of Dhawan's worst ever innings.
13(31) chasing 300+. Edged one in the first over, nearly run out minutes later, hit on the helmet and lost his neck guard all while his 22 yo batting partner was timing the pants off the same bowling.
WI will challenge most sides in India come 2023 WC. Indian pitches are even more flat than the ones we see here. They need to find more reliable bowling options to partner Jospeh & Holder. Spin department especially. We should have been 2-0 up in this series.
At least, we are neck and neck with India’s C team. That’s a bonus.
Hosein is the leading wicket taker in ODI cricket this year and motie is a beast, spin bowling is fine. Issue is that holder is a passable ODI bowler on his best day and joseph is hot and cold. Shepherd isn't good enough for ODI cricket. Bit suprised Odean smith isn't considered over him tbh, started his career much better and did well last time India and the windies played ODI'S.WI will challenge most sides in India come 2023 WC. I guess he's only there to lead a green side (but in that case he shouldn't have played in Eng so who knows what the management thinks his role is). Makes no sense otherwise to play him at his age over guys like Kishan and Gaekwad. I like the guy well enough, he's been great at the top with Rohit for many years, but the game's moved on past what he has to offer.Just watching the highlights, that's gotta be up there with one of Dhawan's worst ever innings.
