I support any course of action that removes Starc from the Test side

But this definitely seems like the right balance for this sort of pitch.

Yeah no issues with maxwell playing the agar #8 3rd spinner role on these kind of pitches. Green is more than good enough to fill in 10 overs an innings with the new ball and maxy is gonna be as effective as agar with the ball in these conditions.

I don't exactly see why the batting needs to be reinforced in the first place tbh


I just hope (although certainly don't expect) that being around the Test setup will incentivise Maxwell to play some Sheffield Shield cricket again. Providing Covid doesn't **** everything again also of course

Why wouldn't you reinforce the batting? If you can make the batting stronger without weakening the bowling then it's a no-brainer

Now whether or not Maxwell for Starc actually does weaken the bowling is debatable, but I'm leaning towards no.

Even allowing for the pitch conditions, Maxwell isn't a Test match bowlers arsehole

Different wickets in Pakistan m8. This is all on the presumption that the 2nd test wicket is sufficiently similar to the 1st.

Argument could also be made that Maxwell's bowling isn't even relevant. You've got ***/Green, Lyon, Swepson and Head as a 3rd spinner. Maxwell can potentially sit back as a specialist batsman and still provide more value than Starc

Oh no I'm not against re Maxwell for Starc. Just think Starc has done well since ashes to stop people calling for his head ever second game

Yeah it makes sense if the pitch plays like the one in the first Test, but I don't think you can know that for sure just by looking at it at the toss. I'd rather have a proper attack that accounts for the possibility of the pitch/game going a different way than another batsman at 8.

Even 1 quick is enough tbh. Green might not even have to bowl. Head, Lyon and Maxwell to take 18 wickets between them
