Maxwell isn’t a finisher

He can change a game with his batting but he’s no Hussey or Bevan when it comes to seeing it through to the end
Whichever way you look at Maxwell, he's great value to have in your team.
Not always on song, but when he's tuned in he can be something quite amazing.

Embarrassing that surfaces can be produced which make pie chuckers like this Wellalage bloke and Ashton Agar actual competitive bowlers at international level. Left arm nothing burgers.

I'll always think Maxwell never made the most of his ability in ODIs tbh. I watched him take SL apart in the WC semi final at the SCG in 2015 and the bloke just looked a cut above every other player on the park. You watch him play a knock like that and it's hard not to be disappointed with his output since, regardless of there being a number of extenuating circumstances.
I argued a couple of years ago that Maxwell would be an all time great based on his then-first half of his career when he averaged mid-30s with both bat and ball...but he's averaged over 100 with the ball since 2016 so.....his batting doesn't present a good enough case, particularly considering he hasn't really shined when batting at 5, unlike say Jos

Chamika, mate. Don’t blame the fielder. You bowled a half tracker at snails pace

Really don't get what the selectors are thinking with the ODI team. Head makes runs opening so we push him as far away from it as we can, green averages 60+ in list A with the ball and they play him at 8 as a bowling all-rounder just after returning from injury, then they play marsh at 3 as a pure batsmen when he's never going to bat there anywhere near full strength. FFS this team becomes so much better if you swap bead and marsh around, and also gives us a realistic look at there output in the positions there likely to bat.

I'm a bit of broken record on this, but I think I'm gonna always be angry at the ODI team as long as they're trying to use two batting all-rounders in the team at 5-6-7 area. Just don't like it. (counting Maxwell as an all-rounder).

Don't think it's worth trying to understand the team today, they're just throwing in whoever they can. Probably hoping Marsh repeats his T20 revival Happy Carey is at 5 as if he can really establish himself as a batter in the top 5 it can really help the structure

That was a low key crucial knock from Carey. Set a bit of a platform for Maxwell at least

Mate they're just doing their best at putting 11 uninjured blokes on the park atm haha

Yeah hard to complain too much about the selection of the eleven as such but Nintendo is right that Head and Marsh probably should've swapped batting positions. Marsh should be the full strength #5 and get used to batting there, and Head is really only a serious option as an opener so batting him way down is fairly pointless.

Did not see Aus getting within a bulls roar of 260 let alone 280-290 with this line up on this deck
