International Coach
Root will probably make 200 but despite the commentators waxing lyrical about him he has already played more dodgy shots than the rest of the batsmen combined

International Debutant
Blundell has now graduated to having a mare behind the stumps, wonder if he's busted a finger.
He did look in a lot of pain after seemingly copping one on the fingers after it wobbled. I guess Latham or Conway could take the gloves if necessary.

Norwood's on Fire
Very pleased to see Pope in the runs. Not had chance to watch much of this at all so far. Flat deck?

Pretty flat, good bounce and very dry surface. With neither side having quicks or quality spinners it’s hard work for the bowlers.

Not having a 3rd slip in for Root when he was looking that dicey was a criminal error for Tom, even with England scoring so quickly.

How many chances has NZ shelled so far?
3 though Southee’s one was really difficult. Mitchell dropped the easiest slip catch he’ll ever get, and then dropped another diving to his left that Blundell really should’ve gone for.

I feel like both sides are playing like it’s an even game when NZ are still way ahead. Root needs to rein it in and play more naturally and NZ can afford more attaching fields.
Yeah agree with this, honestly if Root goes we're back to our prank batters and one of the worst tails we've ever had, yet he's playing like it's a testimonial.
