So what's the highest total conceded after inviting your opponents to bat first? My best bets about England conceding 600 in those situations didn't quite work out, as England batted first before SL made 600+ in the 3rd test in 2003, and Aus won the toss before scoring 600+ at Nottingham in 1989.

Here we are. It just took a while. I have no idea whether it's the highest ever, but it is 600+

Don't throw it away boys, I'm hoping Stokes is going to outdo Hutton for runs conceded after inviting your opponents to bat first. And there's no rush. We all know it will look very different when England are batting.

Haha this is great for New Zealand I reckon, bit of moisture just before it’s their turn to bowl.
Yeah, it might make timing of the declaration slightly harder to call. My original prediction of 5.00pm could be trumped by NZ wanting to bowl before the post-rain moisture has dried out.
