They seam to be getting it to seam a lot more than it did yesterday. Does the rain have something to do with it? Putting moisture back into the pitch etc, or does it not work like that? I remember one match where a couple of sessions worth of heavy rain was said to have dried out the pitch because of the wet outfield. I have no idea how it works.

Kudos again to Jamieson for skipping the IPL to work on his bowling. Looking far better than he did in the NZ home summer.

Though also kudos to him for signing up to the IPL for an enormous sum of money in his first season when his stocks were high with Virat Kohli, performing terribly and returning home with a bag of cash and the ability to take his career in whatever direction he wanted.

When my flatmate asked me something like "name all opening partners of cook" I had to name something like 17 people
Jamieson poses more of a threat than Tremlett, surely.
Tremlett was a monster in the 2011 Ashes. Seriously underrated bowler and loss imo.

For a while there England had like 2 attacks worth of good bowlers. Still do tbh but they're all injured atm.

Haven't seen many people as intimidating while bowling just over 130 km/h as Tremett in 2010/11. Got injured very soon after though.
Yes, we didn't see very much of peak Tremlett. Even less than Simon Jones a few years earlier. Whereas Jamieson's averaging 18 after 15 matches.

A very Pope innings.

We've had a bit of the New England this match but also quite a lot of Old England, to New Zealand's fortune.

There's no mistaking which of these sides won holds the WTC and which one's bottom of the test rankings, even allowing for silly decisions like putting Pope at 3.

I always find Boult round the wicket very unaesthetic compared to over, makes it looks like he doesn't do much with the ball. But I think that one did deck away notably even if it's hard to tell from the straight camera angle.

I'm trying to think who we had in 2011. From memory, Anderson, Broad, Finn, Tremlett and Bresnan, most of them at the peak of their powers. Have I forgotten anyone? I'll take a bit of persuading that the current cohort are their equal, despite their potential.

You could say Anderson and Broad are much more experienced 11 years later.

Pope certainly doesn't make supporting him easy
There really wasn't a huge case for picking him. He'd made runs in the CC, but he always does, and so have a lot of people on the pitches being produced for the CC this year. And anyway, I'd rather see him churning out the runs for Surrey.

True. Broad's peak was somewhere between then and now. I know that Anderson's figures since around 2014 are extraordinary, so we're weighing up his extra skills level with the effect of approaching 40 on his stamina over five days. I wouldn't like to call it either way.
