***Official New Zealand Domestic Season 2021/22***

Couple of very good chases coming up today. Otago and CD both have started really well. Imagine both go on to chase the target down. Firebirds and Canterbury have dominated the game so far but could end up on the losing side if Otago and CD have one very good day with the bat.

It seems unlikely that Wellington would have lost if it hadn't been for the rain interruption, but given the insipid bowling results, it seems highly unlikely they would ever have won it. It was a pretty uninspiring bowling line-up in the first place. Surely there are better options than McPeake or Sneddon? And I'm not sure what role Gibson plays. Almost the definition of a bits and pieces cricketer as things stand.

In hindsight they should have batted for a bit in the morning and pushed up the run rate. Charitable declaration really.

International Debutant

Sad to hear this news. Remember him from a few televised Shell Cup/State Shield games, and I think Cricket Max as well.
Yeah, I remember him from those days. Only 53. A fan has done a thread on his career going back to his days in the Burnside High first XI and the first Youth World Cup where he took several wickets including that of Nasser Hussein and batted number 4. RIP.

Auckland vs Wellington started today. ND vs CD and Canterbury vs Otago start tomorrow.

No debutants in today's game, but their really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Jordan Sussex and Gareth Severin the 12th men. Solia opening, Briggs and Harrison also included for Auckland.

I haven't caught much domestic cricket this season but Smith looks noticeably quicker these days than I remember. He's definitely the fastest Wellingtonian on display.
That is good to hear, I have always been worried he was not quick enough for NZ. He is not a big guy.

O'Donnell must be pressing hard for a NZA spot - his form over the last month has been outstanding.
EPOO factor helps. Normally a flat pitch, with short leg side boundaries when wicket is close to edge of block.

At EPOO (before today) 25 games, 1760 runs @ 41.90, 4 x 100s.

At other grounds 34 games, 1661 runs @ 31.34, 2 x 100s.

Younghusband bowled a lot of bad balls. Lol at nightwatchman Delport hitting four fours off the last four balls of the day (by Ravindra). Three of them were edged through or over the slips.

Sigh. It's not a great looking bowling line up, really. Disappointing that Younghusband hasn't taken the opportunity here (so far)

He'd have to be.

Always rated him, seems like he's finally got his game together and figured out how to cash in on his talent.
i think he finally got good after i very bluntly asked on here how a bloke who barely averages 30 hold his spot.

my powers of jinxing myself into looking dumb (no help required ofc) have since moved on to michael bracewell.

And fair enough too, he was doing a lot less than he needed to.

Of course, you are talking to a guy who said Neil Wagner would only destroy Kookaburras for his mates at Test level and would be a flop, the same guy who talked up Mitchell Santner as a long-term Test option and only this year said CdG was done. Next, Will Young will become the next Alastair Cook and score 10,000 Test runs as an opener.
