Hmm tough one. I'm going to go with Labu purely because of the headstart he has atm.

Heart says Babar though because to the eye at least, he seems to pick up lengths very very early compared to most. I fear he'll at some point get too burdened with captaincy and lose a bit of steam.

Babar actually averages more than Labu since Labu debuted, and they're the same age. Their overall averages are a reflection of Babar being picked before he was really particularly good at red ball cricket because #talent and #Pakistan, while Labu was left to develop a bit longer.

Labu playing the majority of his games at home so far and Babar playing most his away should be a factor too IMO, even if we consider UAE to be "home" for Babar.

Whatever it takes!!!
Babar definitely the more talented and with more upside of the two IMO and I say this as one of the biggest and earliest fans of Labu here on CW.

Why is Labu's average being written down? Aren't we in the hardest to bat era since WWII or something?

Marnus is quality but that nagging feeling of his inordinately high amount of luck with drop catches/balls falling in the gaps leads me to believe it might eventually bring his average down to less spectacular numbers soon. He's clearly very good but his numbers may be overstating it. Anyone know what his fca is?

Because of the extraordinary number of chances he offers in any innings of substance. His once stellar average is on a downward spiral.

Labu also hasn't scored an overseas 100 yet. A few good fifties in England, and one in Pakistan now, but that's about it for his overseas record really.

Babar Azam, as others have mentioned, has barely played at home. Only 12 innings out of 69. Averages 93 in those 12, suggests his overall average would be much higher if he played closer to a normal ratio of games at home. Also has 2 overseas hundreds.

Babar by some distance, better to watch, played in many different conditions, a wider range of strokes, better across formats as well...the list goes on. But that's not to say Marnus is bad, he is a very good batter but he is being compared to the best batsman of his generation.
