The thing about MI, and Gaurav Sunderraman alluded to it in a TIC way in the cricbuzz live Auction review, is that they always seem to have insider trading style power in the IPL. They have bought Archer but Sunderraman basically said "as long as Archer does not miraculously recover to play this season, we are all good". Tells us what you need to know how this franchise is viewed even in the IPL circle. Also, they always get shady "trades" done every year when there is no mega auction. I think they are banking on those stuff for next year and are basically letting this year go.

And btw, even stronger MI sides have usually sucked across IPL seasons, including last year in the two legs. They go for template based signings and while it may come off spectacularly one season, quite often it causes them to be pretty bad in others.
Don’t be jealous. David will win them the next 4 IPLs.

Whatever it takes!!!
Getting all money trades for Boult.. You can literally listen to Bond, Boult talk about how they wanted to get him and influenced through Bond. It kinda defeats the spirit of the auction and the "level playing field" arguments, doesn't it? TBF, Delhi had done the same thing that year. Ganguly literally gave an interview how he as a high ranking BCCI official discussed with Ashwin Rahane and Axar and got them to Delhi.

I'm happy to be the OP given I did start the convo on this. Plus I've committed to following the IPL sincerely this year for a change.

Obligatory Jarrod Kimber video on the auctions:

People can hate IPL as much as they want to but these stories keep happening and keep making me happy. :)

A guy for whom even the base price of 20 L is life changing. Please be more stories like this, please.

And @Magrat Garlick can you please change the thread title to ***Official*** IPL 2022 ? We can perhaps sticky it when it starts.

So how badly do we think COVID will affect this tournament? The Big Bash got completely wrecked, they were calling in grade cricketers to make up the numbers by the end. The IPL franchises have expanded squads to account for any potential outbreaks, do we expect it to descend into a farce towards the end as well?

takes time for new waves to pick up pace

hopefully it comes after the ipl is over and not towards the end or whatever

So this starts on Saturday

LSG have lost all their first-choice overseas players lol. Blessing Muzarabani has been called up to cover them, excited to see how he goes. First Zimbabwean IPL player since Brendan Taylor iirc.
