Mumbai's squad is a bit ehh this year, no real great openers AFAIK outside Ishan and rohit, and the bowling looks really weak.

Dont ask me how Lucknow got that last player. Seems they had 20L saved from their retentions somehow, I guess. But by all accounts they had nothing left and suddenly they got a player out of nowhere.

Number of teams leaving 1 overseas player slot on the table here.

Yeah MI have not done a great job imo. Blowing 30L on Arjun Tendulkar is lame af.

Strong retentions and Tim David may save them though.

Good auction, feels like the franchises have broadly done well. Glad we won't be having anymore of these for the next few years.

Did Paul Stirling get picked up?

Been really consistent over last few years and would be first ever Irish player picked up for any franchise.
Ignored again.

Murazbani and Lamichanne no luck either.

I was hoping with the extra teams the associates might get a look in but alas not to be.

Some of these guys could sign up as replacements too. 250 players is the absolute max and we had 600 in the auction. And only 80 overseas slots, and decisions are based on team balance and what the Indian core group specializations are etc.

Yeah ofc Nattu is a proper T20 specialist... Sakariya Nah.. Khaleel is a full prone India squad member. Asia Cup NZ tour Guy has been on high profile series at a younger age than Sakariya. Ian Bishop rates him very highly. OTOH more match winning spells than Sakariya till date in IPl
I've never found him that impressive but I could be wrong. I always thought that he is like Tsotsobe, can keep it tight and do well in a good bowling lineup but can't do much on his own.

We just need someone like that, isn`t it? There is Bumrah to lead the attack and Siraj/Shami to support. Hence, we just need one more pacer who can keep up the pressure.

OTOH, all of the above cannot bat and so, I will prefer only 1 or 2 out of them in the same side. It should be Thakur or Deepak Chahar as the third pacer. In T20, A deep batting line-up is quite important for the batsmen upfront to play more freely.

Yap, but I guess they are looking at long term. Totally not OK with Arjun's pick but their bowling lineup is going to be crazy next year when Archer is fit. Archer, Sams/Meredith and Bumrah:laugh:, that's 12 overs of top-quality bowling. Plus they've picked plenty of ARs to fill in for Pandya bros. Tim David is a really good pick, and so is Sanjay Yadav(replacement for Krunal). Fabian Allen, Unadkat, Markande, Mills, M Ashwin are also in the mix. Too much bowling depth IMO. Their batters will just have to play regular cricket and they'll be on course.

Ishan, Rohit, SKY & Pollard - their best batters are strong AF with plenty of experience.

Sure, and there are plenty who can do that + offer something more. Like Chahar, who can bat and is too good with the new ball.

One of the issues for these guys is the high base prices most of them were set for. I'm sure all of them would have gotten a contract if franchises could pay less for their services.

Arjun Tendulkar getting a contract was so lol, as was Gujurat Titans outbidding MI when they made a token bid. Should have kept bidding to drive his contact up IMO.

No more money laundering schemes by RR for a change. Thank god Undercutter wasn't brought for 10+ cr or heck even Gowtham

I also think specifically with Steve Smith, the fact that he may be on national duty and stuff played a part. Plenty of good players are always gonna miss out, especially overseas stars, coz we only have 80 slots now and they had about 200 or so who had signed up, I think.

The thing about MI, and Gaurav Sunderraman alluded to it in a TIC way in the cricbuzz live Auction review, is that they always seem to have insider trading style power in the IPL. They have bought Archer but Sunderraman basically said "as long as Archer does not miraculously recover to play this season, we are all good". Tells us what you need to know how this franchise is viewed even in the IPL circle. Also, they always get shady "trades" done every year when there is no mega auction. I think they are banking on those stuff for next year and are basically letting this year go.

And btw, even stronger MI sides have usually sucked across IPL seasons, including last year in the two legs. They go for template based signings and while it may come off spectacularly one season, quite often it causes them to be pretty bad in others.
