Having given a shout out to Blackham, I'm happy now to change my vote to Watling among those who can actually win this one - I genuinely believe he was both a better 'keeper and a more valuable batsman than Ames. Great player though Ames was (and I wouldn't seek to deny that), I've do feel he is just a little overrated in these parts.

Only query is whether Jayawardene & Moin Khan deserve to be among such company. They were more just keepers who keep and were about average at batting as far as wicket-keeping goes

Jayawardane's keeping was best at his era. So definietly yes. Averaged 30 with the bat, so a keeper who could bat. Moin's heroics mainly was in ODIs, but he was a good keeper. not as good as Latif though.
