Is Shannon Gabriel injured still? He could of been useful here he has a knack of taking wickets
Yeah he's recovering from a thigh strain. Still, Alzarri bowled at 148kph yesterday and it made no difference at all. This pitch sucks.

At least Stokes is injecting some entertainment though!

Also, I heard Darren Gough on Talksport in the UK complaining that the pitch was hard to score on. I had watched batsman hit through the line with impunity all day. Still not sure what match he was watching...

He bowls good spells occasionally, but also bowls too many bad ones. I think he needs a prolonged stay in FC cricket to tighten up his consistency.
whats he into now, 20 tests? barely does anything with the ball, hasn't improved an iota. where is chemar holder?

He's innocuous at the best of times. On a flat pitch and against Stokes in a certain mood, he's about the last bowler I want bowling.
Yeah agreed. The 3rd seamer role is something we could definitely improve. GAbriel would clearly be an upgrade, but he's in his 30s and replacements need identifying. Anderson Phillip seems to be next.

Permaul just isn;t cutting it in this series either unfortunately. I feel for the guy as he earned his chance, did brilliantly in SL and has now bowled on two absolute roads. But as a test spinner you have to be able to at least hold an end when things are tough in the first innings. He hasn't looked like doing that at any point. Perhaps he is too used to having things his own way in FC cricket and has never really had to play a defensive role. Either way he has not looked up to it.

Chemar got injured and had a shocking couple of FC matches. Anderson Phillip is the next in line, with an FC average of 20 and good pace. If not him, Gabriel comes back but not to take the new ball, but to play the 3rd seamer/enforcer role.

fair. if west indies can squeeze a few more years out of gabriel then gabriel/holder/roach/seales is a serious attack.

Did SLAs across the world just decide to be less crafty or have they always been susceptible to getting rekt by a hard hitting leftie playing through the line? Pant, Head and Stokes all show no respect.

That's an interesting point and also very valid. Just racking my brains now and I can remember back in the early days of CPL Permaul literally could not bowl at any of the International standard left handers as they all took him to the cleaners. As you say, we've seen it in a number of scenarios recently as well.

What Simmons et all have been rubbish at is rotating pacers so that some of the newbies get experience and are therefore ready to step in when Shannon breaks down or Roach has his usual Woakes like effort overseas. They need to start rotating Phillip, Holder, Smith etc in occasionally.

Still, our pace attack is the least of our worries tbh, I'd say it is our biggest strength by far. We need batsmen.
