Specialist bat turned bowling all-rounder is an interesting career progression. Can think of two who did the opposite, but not this way around.

Kitchen's 38 today.

Probably Oram would be.

Edit. And Dipak Patel. (But from a much higher 'part-time spinner' base)

Triple Edit: Missing the obvious one .... Todd Astle.

But none of the above making the transition well into their 30s like Kitchen.

Barry Cooper in domestic one day almost fits the bill.

0 wickets in 43 List A games 1980-89.

Returned to the ND team in 1993 aged 35, in 3 Shell Cup seasons took 34 wickets @ 29, 3.7 RPO with wobbly seamers and occasional off-spin. But was also making runs, so was being picked as a batting all-rounder.

Fondly remember going to Blake Park and watching Cooper come on and put the brakes on opposing teams. Shane Thomson would invariably score a half century. The only player I can remember getting hold of Cooper on those low slow tracks was Chris Cairns. He would usually go for 20 or 30 and nab a couple of wickets.

I assume today's game between Auckland and CD has nothing riding on it. Both meet in 3 days time in the final. Maybe one gets to pip the other for home final?

Edit: No? Looks like the final is at Queenstown on Saturday regardless. Piggy-backing on already having cameras set up there for the womens cricket.

Both sides will be at home with the CDish like square boundaries at Queenstown.

Jeez Auckland have an exciting side. Top 4 of guppy, worker, Phillips and Chapman+ fergo and ashkok. Pure blockbuster.

Not sure if I'm overstating this, but the fact that Worker has 127 not off 137 balls, and only 54 of those are in boundaries seems pretty outstanding in terms of strike rotation.

U19 12th Man
Worker now with 4 centuries this season. Surely that's a record. He now has 15 Ford Trophy centuries. Papps is next with 11. He has 18 List A centuries overall and only 61 players worldwide have more than this. Will he get a run against the Dutch as sounds like the IPL players won't be picked.

Stuff reporting (erroneously) that Ollie Pringle is the son of Chris, then linking that story to another one where it clearly says that he isn't the son of Chris, but rather Martin who played for Auckland in the 80s :laugh:
