CW's Ranking of Spinners (Tests)

Why no votes for Herath? He's a better spinner than Ashwin (although Ashwin is the better cricketer because of batting). Also no votes for Benaud or Trumble yet which is weird.

Anyway, I'm voting for Underwood who is already too low.

How is Lance Gibbs a better bowler than Ashwin? Serious question to know why ppl rate him so high.
I think Ashwin will overtake him by the time his career ends, and on pure skill you can argue Ashwin is greater. But Lance Gibbs played through an era of flat pitches, unfriendly LBW laws, and in a team that would go on to make spin extinct. Despite this he was the first spin bowler, and only the 2nd bowler ever, to cross 300 wickets. He had great economy wherever he played, holding up an end on unhelpful tracks and taking loads of wickets when it spun. His career was 15 years long - he took a test five-fer in 1958 and in 1975. During his career no other bowler took 250 wickets, the next best by a spinner was Underwood with 224. Gibbs was a giant of the game. Deserves more respect.

Yeah that convinced me to go for Gibbs the next round. He was a different kind of spinner.
