Nice summary. I am personally looking forward to Sarfaraz Khan succeeding this Ranji season and getting close to the test side. He has immense potential and can easily replace Pujara or Rahane. He should ideally be the next cab off the rank but alas, our selectors are just looking at LO performances to select test side.So plenty of 100s on Day 1 of the Ranji Trophy. From the India prospects, Rahane (108*), Pandey (156 off just 121), Sarfraz Khan (121*) and Dhull (113) all tonned up. There were also centuries for Krishnamurthy Siddarth (Karnataka, 140* off 221), Pavan Shah (Maharashtra, 165*), Yashu Sharma (Haryana, 101*), Rohan Kunnummal (Kerela, 107 off just 97), Paras Dogra (Puducherry, 108), Babul Kumar (Bihar, 123*) and Sakibul Gani (also Bihar, 136*).
Bowling wise Ishan Porel turned in the best spell of the India prospects, with final figures of 4/40 vs Baroda, while Manipur SLA bowler L Kishan Singha returned 11-6-11-4 on FC debut vs Arunachal Pradesh! Andhra seamer Cheepurapalli Stephen with the only 5-fer on Day 1, taking 5/51 vs Rajasthan. Kerela's Eden Apple Tom finished with 4/40 as well, while Sreesanth nabbed 2 wickets towards the end of the innings. SRH's Umran Malik with an expensive 3/79 in 14 overs, while Umesh Yadav returned a tidy 16-6-37-2 vs Uttar Pradesh. Uttrakhand's Deepak Dhapola took 4/24 in 19 overs vs Services - he's only played 8 FC games before this, but has 45 wickets at 15.5! Shame that he's 31 years old lol.
True, I think some of these blokes have been at a huge disadvantage because of lack of Ranji games in the last couple of yrs. Sarfaraz is a bright prospect and might have pushed his case for the national side in tests/white ball cricket.Nice summary. Most importantly he is moving Rahane away from the narrative. Deserves selection just for that.Mumbai 426/6. Sarfaraz Khan 217* (362) ?
I thinkAbout time Pujara and Rahane were dropped.
Would be interesting to see who bats at no 3. Vihari? Gill? Agarwal? Iyer?
Yeah since it's Mohali we are most likely to go in with three seamers while Kuldeep/Jayant will come in for the second test in Bangalore.Jaddu-Pant-Ash-Bumrah-Shami/Umesh-Siraj to complete the lineup.
On what basis was he dropped to begin with is the more pertinent question. Not saying his confidence isn't completely shot atm but the guy's been handled poorly to say the least. On what basis is Kuldeep in test squad ffs?
