IIRC his record is made to look worse because of those last three Tests he played where he was 35 and well past his best, but even then he averaged 27 rather than 22.

I'll vote Lillee here though obviously a few others are on par.

This is not really getting enough votes to be representative of CW. In the Trueman/Akram thread Sir Freddie was well in front after 40 plus votes. Here he hasn’t had a vote, while the Akram lovers have been voting for him since first place.

His record against Australia is a mixed bag really, not poor.

I think the series of Australia in South Africa in 96/97 when he was at his peak kind of dampened opinion of him in Aussie eyes. He was quite poor in those first two critical tests and only fired when the series was lost.

Pap Finn Keighl

International Debutant
Marshall and Mcgrath had the luxury of playing for a super strong team.. Which is definitely a huge advantage.. Helps to achieve better avg, ER and SR.

Hadlee is the most impressive in top 3. ( also had far better longevity )

So basically disproving your theory that you have to be in good team to achieve that level of success?

Based on what if I may ask.
Body of work. FST, Lindwall and DKL retired with a reputation of being the greatest ever. Akram is still widely regarded as such and Donald was on the same level throughout their careers. Holding just falls shy IMO. Garner is closer though.
