Another big Ford Trophy 100 for George Worker today. He really has an excellent record in this format at this level. Did OK in the chances he got for NZ as well. Could he be a chance to go to Australia especially if Guptill is injured?
Didn't really do well aside from one random century in SA way-back-when. Was given another go on that tour of UAE a few years ago and wasn't good.
Definitely like worker over nicholls as an odi opener
Might be time to look at other options past Nicholls as ODI opener in the near future too, though he is good as a fallback. Perhaps first choice will be Guptill and Allen, though questionable whether Allen will succeed at international level at first attempt and Guptill may not be around for the next ODI WC either.

"Looky here, CdG and Santner have just smashed our main quicks. Solution?"
"I know, let's bring on the 19yo leggie for the last over of the powerplay!"

tbf, he didn't fare too badly. CdG's been on fire. 49 runs from an individual in a List A powerplay is hardly unheard of, but from a number 5 batsman?

Poor Danru Ferns has taken a bit of a pounding. 73 runs conceded in his 6 overs. The WASP has ballooned from 1%.

Absolute flogging.

Santner out to Solia, rest of ND's batting quite explosive/hit-or-miss too. Could be on for the rare combo of both a 300+ score and all out before 40 overs.

Aw no, Ferguson wrecks party again.

Worker has got a raw deal I think for black caps. He's got to be picked. He's not all that old, just turned 32 I think.

Although Rutherford didn't have a great test record he could have been tried too in white ball cricket. Both I guess of the same age and if they played in the 2000s both would have clocked good number of white ball games.

That said the focus will shift to t20 world cup for which the team is pretty much picks itself. There is no more spots in the t20s to offer. One day world cup in India next and the squads will start to get to build from now on which means chances are these two will miss out.

Wonder what team gets picked for the Aussie one day and t20 tours?

That's it my man. No one knew how much we missed him until he wasn't there (let's ignore the Bangladesh away series tho)
I mean... I'm happy to ignore that series completely given pretty much none of our players did well with the exception of Latham and Young. And Finn Allen showing glimpses. Oh and Ajaz.

Also the Lord hit the best sounding 6 of that tour - so it's not all doom and gloom.

Hopefully he goes to Aus!

Under 19s national tourney starting on the 15th... Get to see some up and coming talent. Hope there are some kids that can bowl quick. In five years time we will need them. We haven't had as many tear aways recently.

What's happened to Tim Seifert?

9,1,1,8,15,38*,14,14,17,13 last 10 bats (last 2 for NZ, other 8 for ND in T20/List A)

I get the feeling that quasi-T20 specialists can get themselves into the almightiest of ruts. Especially if lower order finishers like Seiffert has transitioned too.

Too much travel, too much bench time. Too many idle days between measly 40 over matches. Too few balls batted, if any, in actual games he plays. Too much quarantining. Not enough batting.

Needs to play some FC.

He is basically the complaints sbout England batting personified. He should also be the canary in the mine for NZC to pay attention to our own scheduling as our golden batting generation starts to age. Need to make sure their charges are getting a balanced diet.
