***Official*** India in South Africa 2021-22

Nortje injured, meant to be Olivier's chance he becomes unavailable so they pick Jansen.. he takes his opportunity and now they won't stick with it but vacillate and drop Mulder instead.
And the problem is that South Africa won the test, so they think that it worked. As a result they could very well persist with it until it becomes clear that they're a batsman short i.e. they lose a number of tests due to the length of the tail.

Is Jadeja injured? Guess that’s why they’re playing Ashwin I suppose. I don’t think the team can consider Ashwin and Thakur as bowling all-rounders. With Pant not coping well, their batting is way too thin past #2, and #5 is likely in a career ending slump. I don’t think playing just 2 specialist batsman tenable anymore. Made sense when at least some of the top/middle order was making a runs but that’s no longer the case.
Fixed.

SA's day You can say that they are now in total control of the test looking at scoreboard. But India has got the big fish in Elgar early.
Elgar is the only left-hand batter in their team. Him occupying the crease alone constantly disrupts the lines of the Indian bowlers.

So he is worth 2 wickets, given the above, his insane form, and him being that influencial captain who guides the other batters while he is at the crease.

Hopefully India can settle into a good line against the right handers now

Rahane should do the honorable thing and ease into his katana. Ridiculously unreliable player...it's not just a form thing even. After 80 Tests the guy continues finding different modes of dismissals. A true artiste at work.

Yeah they can breathe a bit easy but it's a mountain to climb. Terrible that we really could have posted 300 & probably won the game. Feel Ashwin will be deciding factor in 2nd inns in case this becomes a 1 inning shootout like Joburg test.

Still think its South Africas day, its not a 223 all out wicket , no matter how you try spin it.

Tomorrow the weather is going to be fine and sunny, hopefully Maharaj will stick around with some educated french cuts to irritate the bowlers

Whatever it takes!!!
I think our 6-8 have to take the blame for the disappointing batting performance this time. Mayank got out to a poor shot from all accounts but from what I saw of the balls that dismissed Pujara and Rahane, they were good balls. Rahul was a bit so-so but OS tells me it was a good ball, so will go with that. 1 of the first 4 wickets to fall falling to a bad shot is an acceptable ratio in tough away conditions. But Pant, Ashwin and Shardul all threw their wickets away with nothing shots and that is inexcusable after batting first on such a track. Virat was awesome but still limited. He could have cut the ball he got out to, but his almost compulsive front foot play is still going to tuck him up for scoring freely for a long time unless he figures it out himself.

The bowling was a lot more encouraging to see and it is tough to not feel that the team has a different intensity when Virat is out there leading them. Everyone was on point and hopefully we see more of the same tomorrow.

Need to get Aiden early tomorrow. He has been in terrible form so far but he can dominate the attack. Getting early wicket would put pressure right back on SA.

Yeah, his action still looks a little "young MJ" in that there are a lot of moving parts, not fully refined yet. Once that's all in order he's going to be scary.
Interesting observation. Looks much more compact than Johnson from my eyes and pretty repeatable (front arm could be higher and maybe he could drive through the crease more) Johnson looked more slingy and had that elongated delivery stride, and looked like his arms weren't really in synch at all

Was it around or before the 13/14 Ashes when he'd really refined himself? Arms closer together and smaller steps just led to a much more fluent run up - looked quicker through the crease too

Feeling bit nervous about this game. Not gonna lie. This is the chance. Have no idea when next tour will happen and how much team would have changed by then.

SA are definitely ahead for now.

I did but I meant that whatever India get, batting first, wil be too much for SA. As I have said repeatedly, their batting is utter ..... ahem.
I think it will be a second innings battle. Expecting India`s bowlers to rise to the occasion today and keep SA within a 50 run lead. Might go a similar way as the second test.
