It really was, especially as lefties have tended to be better against Australia than offies recently, and even though he seems to have gone okay in the A match, Bess is even less accurate.

Probably permanently damages the Leach's career too, especially as Root has no faith in him to start (his non-selection last home season was ridiculous).

Pitches were harder to bat on and the field settings were better, but they really did do everything to let those two succeed last summer. Ashwin was often getting away with two short balls an over. Smith (among others) was just tapping them back down the pitch.

I know he's coming off an injury and was a bit unlucky in his first spell, but I didn't see Stokes going at sixes here. It's not only Leach who's been smashed around, which puts even more pressure on the front liners.
