That's a ridiculously good leave by Marnus there btw. A lot of players would have played that, edged that, and we'd have all been saying that there was nothing they could do about it.

Looks more like a serious missed chance with each replay. That said I can understand why he threw it like that, it's instinctive.
It's honestly as big a miss as the Burns drop. He had so much time, had a comfortable angle and was about four metres away. But yeah, obviously in the heat of the moment you're prone to rush things.

It also says something about the lengths England have been bowling. I thought we were still often a bit short, and England have bowled a lot shorter.

Can anyone think of a less threatening looking bowler (at least one who didn't spray it around terribly) who bowls as quick as Wood? He must have a very easy to pick action or something, he hardly ever seems to rush the batsman.
He's rushed Warner plenty tbh. he's just bowled too short.

Also, Starc comes to mind.

And that non-run out is one of the funnier things I've seen on a cricket field in years. Hameed deserves that for basically giving the bird to every viewer through the strapping on his middle fingers.

He can't assume he has that much time tbh

Whatever it takes!!!

The one about 30 seconds in is an Amir-tier no ball. Ridiculously inept umpiring.
They are now saying they had issues with the set camera that they use to check front foot and therefore they are playing by the "old" rules. Why the **** wont you say that at the start of the match? Ridiculously incompetent at best, and that says something.

Even if that's true, a professional umpire should be able to catch at least some of these, especially the one where he's overstepped by like a foot. Like, sorry, that's unforgivably incompetent.

a club umpire could have caught some of those. only explanation is that they weren't looking, either because no one told them they were supposed to or because it genuinely slipped their mind.

poor stuff either way. Was it like this yesterday too?

No one knows, only Channel 7 seems to be particularly bothered about actually digging into this (Trent Copeland and Ponting have been onto this for years). But it was clear that something weird was up when every wicket ball got checked, that didn't happen last summer when the automated system came in.

Obviously I'm well used to watching teams fall to pieces against Australia (almost every NZ test against them in my lifetime, plus the pre-2005 Ashes series I grew up with), but jeez, if yesterday and today are any indication, this series is going to have a prominent position on that list.

They've certainly started off worse than 17/18, and we all know how that ended up.
