I met his mum on a bus in Darwin after Australia v Bangladesh in 2007. We had a lovely chat the whole way from the stadium to the suburbs, talking about Shane and his hopes and dreams, and the vicissitudes of his cricketing life. She said it's been hard for him with all the injuries, but he doesn't want to give up the bowling because he really loves bowling!

Some years later he made a century in a test match and they panned to his proud mum applauding in the stands. I have no ****ing idea who the old biddy on the bus was but it definitely wasn't the woman on the screen.
