Establishing the best decade for cricket: Finding the ATG XI from 12 decades of test cricket - then having a KO tourney to decide the best

Bolo.

International Captain
Wasn't Donald known for being a 1st change because he couldn't control the swinging ball optimally
i think you are thinking about ODIs. IIRC he said he couldn't control the new white ball properly, and wanted to bowl change. Late 90s, maybe. i dont rememeber him ever bowling change in tests, and although it probably happened in a game or two, it wasn't regular.

i feel like i am turning into one of those annoying people who only comments on ppl from their own country recently. apologies, but most of the regulars know more about most of everything in CC and i am not posting much these days, so just trying to add some perspective on what i have seen that you haven't.

International Vice-Captain
Viv to captain 80s side for me. Imran and AB captained decent teams to great glory. Viv captained a truly great team. And we are talking about a truly great team here.

90s openers - Gooch, Taylor
no. 3 - Lara
opening bowlers - Ambrose, Donald

For the 90s outfit:

Opening bats:

Gooch 15 votes

Slater 5 votes

a few each for Taylor and Kirsten, one for Stewart

Number 3:

Only voting this way because Tendulkar is getting through anyway.

M Waugh
S Waugh
Warne

Mark Waugh is a very underrated batsman these days. Played so many clutch innings' but never went on to make a huge score which impacted his batting average a lot. The pinnacle of his career was the partnership with his brother in the West Indies to break their stranglehold on world cricket.

Tendulkar
Steve Waugh

Warne

Probably can skip to the next round, this is about as clear cut as it gets (especially when you consider Murali wasn't that great in the 90's).
