But Teja. I’m not defending the post. I said I think banning him is fair. But it is a distinction because although you will understandably draw the inference, Sledger would categorically never call a specific set people savages in that way, and I think you know this.

I also know for a fact Sledger was going to make a thread in SD this morning apologising for the post. That doesn’t make it okay sure, but there’s a marked difference in both intent and application of what he posted compared to other **** over the years. IMHO

I don't know Sledger half as much as GIMH but agree with this sentiment. If the bloke is doing a sincere apology, we can possibly accept the apology and move on with a shorter ban for him unless he makes a similar offence again.

I don't think you are defending racism and I don't think sledger is a racist pre se. However, that post by sledger was shockingly racist IMO and trundler was directly at the other end of it. Personally think you should cut him some slack considering the circumstances instead of being combative and defensive about it tbh.

Hb makes fair points anyway. So I’m going to say my piece to be completely clear. The post from Sledger sucked and action was justified.

however given he himself took the first action, this should have been accounted for. If he’d been able to post an apology (a sincere one) then a shorter ban would have been pertinent.

100% accurate and I stand by it. Sledger habitually baits people from the SC with posts of that nature, though this one was especially worse, and then you come out with "no he didn't mean it like the other 80 times"

As posters from the subcontinent we have to ignore racially insulting posts all over the fora. Then if anyone replies we have blokes laughing and joking about how many bites they got. It's embedded in forum culture now, so let's not downplay this. At least there seems to have been some sort of decisive action here, for once.

For the longest time, my issues with sledger here in CW were because of how I felt he kept getting away with targetted harassment of SC posters. Now, one of the nicer things that happened over the pandemic period in CW for me was getting to know him outside of all those petty arguments and dissing contests (I never am gonna win those anyways, m not good at it, lol). I honestly think he is a nice good person and I suppose there are a few here who know him personally who would say the same thing.

That said, a public forum on cricket is not always the best place to keep doing things like baiting etc. when all of us know it takes the slightest mistake or misconception on the part of anyone to take it down to a racist argument territory. I hope sledger understands its not worth it and I hope there are no issues he is facing in his life currently that made him do something like this. And I am confident his apology and his repentance was completely sincere. I hope whenever you read this @sledger that you can finally give up on doing things like this, that is really not worth all this trouble. This forum was a bit of a haven during the worst times of this pandemic for me (and I think, many others) and something that gave us positive vibes through some otherwise tough times. I dont see why it should change now over this. I am sure if sledger were here, he would understand why trundler (and others) are so deeply affected by that post. I hope we can move on from this for now and at some point once he is back, we can put such posting and needless debates behind us. If the pandemic has taught us anything, its to value whatever relationships we do have n our life and not push away good people for utterly silly reasons.

Pretty disappointed that everyone's jumping to the defence of a dreadful post on some technicality. It would be offensive if anyone else had posted it but sledger has done this plenty of times and several subcontinent posters here aren't comfortable with it at all. And I'm convinced he knows it. Continuing to do it purely to get a rise out of the subcontinent contingent is needlessly cruel. Probably our fault partly for letting it go on in the past because I think it contributed to the feeling that we agreed it was harmless trolling. Couldn't be further from the truth. also personally don't think his apology was sincere either for whatever it's worth and judging by the laugh emojis on the post others didn't either. Trying to sift through sledgers posts trying to assess what is sincere and what's hilarious knee slap worthy trolling is a futile exercise.

I'm honestly baffled by GIMH getting this angry despite him agreeing the post was dire? Surely if you're in agreement that posters getting pissed off reading that post was fair, you shouldn't be taking potshots at trundler like this. Dude is clearly hurt by sledgers posting.

Anyway I'm sure some of you will be thinking 'how rich' coming from me, I've made bad edgy posts in the past. There's plenty I've posted that I regret. I hope sledger does regret it and stops doing it because having a pages long discussion about how a ban for a post with pretty clear racist undertones is marginally longer than it should isn't how I thought this thread would go. A ban was long overdue and I have very little sympathy for him.
