I know this is just a referential joke but I'd like to make it clear that he didn't call any people savages. Now that the post is gone it's important that people don't think it says something it didn't. He did use the word savage but not in the context of savages - he called the location savage because (certainly according to him) it was associated with high risk of danger or death.

I think his intent was clearly to dangle out some rancid bait, and he phrased it in an unfortunate manner. Once he realised how it was interpreted he retracted it. The mod team takes that sort of thing pretty seriously so he copped a lengthy ban despite that, but I don't think it'd be fair to allow this narrative of "sledger is a racist" to stand. It'd be particularly unfair if someone from his personal or professional life found this thread and didn't understand the context in which people were saying these things or what the post said.

When the race insults are in tour threads, comparison threads, off topic etc, it makes you question how people can't see the issue.

When a mod thinks someone throwing out rancid bait isn't that big a deal, then I guess I know understand how it was allowed to get to this point.

But Teja. I’m not defending the post. I said I think banning him is fair. But it is a distinction because although you will understandably draw the inference, Sledger would categorically never call a specific set people savages in that way, and I think you know this.

I also know for a fact Sledger was going to make a thread in SD this morning apologising for the post. That doesn’t make it okay sure, but there’s a marked difference in both intent and application of what he posted compared to other **** over the years. IMHO

I honestly dont think the Pak fans here have to subjected to these arguments when they are already going through the disappointment of not being able to see their team play scheduled matches. I understand the sticking up for sledger bit, I honestly do, but please understand how much you are hurting some other really nice people here in the process. Every Pak poster in CW deserves better than this.

This is why I feel its better to let this go for now. It can be revisited when everyone has cooled down a bit and emotions are not running this high.

I don't think you are defending racism and I don't think sledger is a racist pre se. However, that post by sledger was shockingly racist IMO and trundler was directly at the other end of it. Personally think you should cut him some slack considering the circumstances instead of being combative and defensive about it tbh.

FWIW, I genuinely think sledger realizes he made a big mistake and understands and feels bad about it. It is a very unfortunate series of events since that post and it winds up with needless extrapolation and mudslinging between people who are all better than this. Lets not make it worse here. Lets chill out for a bit before revisiting this topic.
