***Official*** 5th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester - 10th-14th of September

The result can only be 2-2 or paused. You can’t say the IPL takes priority over a test series and therefore it ends 2-1.

I think pausing for a domestic t20 league is unacceptable though. Really if they want to do that it should be a forfeit. They have to miss the start of the ipl or reschedule the ipl really. Pausing a test series for ages is overly dumb
Paused till when? We're already playing very late into the season in England.

we're only left in exactly the same position we're in now.
much worse, tbh.

Anyways, the best solution would have been to delay the test by 3 or 4 days and have everyone tested in the interim and then allow for one day of practice and then play the test. This is something I believe the players were ok with but BCCI did not want to push back the IPL schedule or add more double headers. ECB could not talk much as going to the tribunal would mean the SA case would go against them, and there is money to be had for them from both the IPL and the future Indian tours. Also, they refused to play ball with the BCCI when they requested for moving the tests up a bit to give them more time for the IPL. So it was always going to be a worst case scenario and I think we have just ended with the least worst case of the options, which is to the credit of both BCCI and ECB as it would have been easy to let emotions cloud your judgement like some in this thread obviously have.

FWIW, I would have been ok with BCCI having to forfeit the test because the players' welfare is more important and BCCI not wanting to move the IPL dates is gross. But then again, ECB are no angels either and I am ok with either or both boards losing something in the process.

You know now that I think about it, Shastri getting covid in the middle of a test and India proceeding to not just continue the test but come from way behind and win was an amazing big dick move. Leaving and ecb unable to get us to forfeit would be great. Hope it's cancelled not rescheduled.

There is no logic of playing one -off test. India should offer to play 5 ODI and 5 T20 next year to compensate for the loss.

If you really want to enable a money game, they should schedule a few IPL franchises play off in England. That will bring best money for ECB.

Wouldn’t have thought so. Certainly not ticket revenue anyway, which is the real hole today.

Lancs shafted here pretty badly, rightly or wrongly. Missed out last year, as did everyone, but were spared mass refunds by rolling the tickets over for those who wanted it. Even if I hadn’t I would probably have been too lazy to go through the refund process anyway so would still have wound up with a ticket. Next year they’ve only got a T20 and ODI, so can’t do the same again, therefore having to hand cash over en masse. At least when you have to give rain refunds out you’ve generally had people spending money at the bars etc.

So a one off Test next year if they can squeeze it in seems like the least they deserve.

You are being ridiculous here. Playing the IPL is not what the players were worried about. They were worried about getting covid when they are with families. IPL was something BCCI was worried about and honestly, neither board cares about the players as much as they do about the money so anything that screws both of them is a win.
As long as we don't trust anything the media writes, then we are all one step closer to the truth.

It is a shame that we didn't get to see a return of the India Test reserves, e.g., Sundar, Axar, Natarajan, Vihari. It would have been good for us to wheel out our excellent back-up players.

i hope this goes to the tribunal and we win the series 2-1

its fair enough given how we settled for a draw in the first test and eng settling for a no result in the last test
Because there’s no way you could have lost 9 wickets for 150, absolutely not, so yeah you were robbed of a win. So let’s call that an India win and we’ll have a nice draw in 2007 when it got rained off WITH ONE ****ING WICKET LEFT

You really think India wouldn't have enforced follow on at OVAL 2007 if series was tied 1-1 in the 3rd test.

Whole series dynamic is changed, much as it potentially is here if the last day at TB gets played out.
