***Official*** 5th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester - 10th-14th of September

Tbh I’m also puzzled there wasn’t concern regarding this in the 4th test, despite the negative PCR tests. Delaying the match was a sensible decision but because of the IPL, that delay is a lot longer than it should have been.

Also, this is exactly why there were strict lockdown and bubble rules in place on India’s tour to Australia. I was surprised to learn there wasn’t a bubble in place for both teams in England. Getting vaccinated doesn’t mean you can’t contract the virus.
I mean it's consistent with how Australian governments, especially state governments, treated anything to do with the pandemic vs the UK government.

So you think England should have been fined, with an expulsion warning, for coming home early from South Africa?
Like it or not this is sort of the precedent we have.

AFAIK England ducked out of the ODIs in RSA because of largely unspecified Covid fears and, again to my knowledge, the series wasn't forfeited?

Obviously huge difference in the series in terms of prestige and the current one is in progress, but the ECB can't have it both ways.

Yes true, but I think having stricter rules in place for athletic competitions than the general public makes sense. I guess it depends on the risk appetite of the boards and players. If there is no strict bubble, then someone in the team catching COVID was a very likely possibility, and one would think that protocols to manage this and decide on scheduling would be in place.

Looking at the schedule, am I right that Old Trafford aren't down to host a Test next year? If so, with a two year wait for the next one - has Jimmeh already played his last Test match on his home turf?

(Not that I'd put it past him to still be playing aged 41!)

There is a window in the first week of August which is when it will happen, most likely.

sledger and FJ are especially gonna love the fact that now Tom Harrison is saying this series is over and the test next year would be considered a one-off. That means India are the

I’ve just heard from an unconfirmed source that India were worried about the grey skies and Jimmy Anderson. Don’t shoot the messenger, just what I’ve been told by a very reliable source
the prick averaged 25 in 4 tests

Pre-vax though.

How does covid make sense? If it was an outbreak, they were already exposed. So this doesn’t protect them anymore. It’s so ridiculous. Completely unacceptable.

This should certainly be a forfeit. Congratulations to England on coming back to square the series 2-2.

if they also miss the beginning of the IPL due to the same worries, I will happily take back my comments.

Physio tested positive yesterday. Physio interacted with players, most specifically Rohit and Pujara in the last 2-3 days. Covid has an incubation period.
Yeah but they’re already exposed in that case. Vaccinated individuals don’t really need to quarantine anyway. But if india were sooooooo worried about the vaccinated negatively tested players infecting the rest of the squad, then replace the exposed players.

of course we all know that it’s a bunch of nonsense and they don’t actually care about ”proper” protection against covid otherwise you wouldn’t have book signings or whatever the hell shastri was up to.

Worst part of this is that now we are all going to retreat into our little tribes and just find excuses to support the side we already identified with.
