I really don't think Australia and South Africa are that similar. The ball tends to swing more in South Africa.

England actually played on good batting surfaces.. Green mambas are reserved only for India Pakistan.
SA conditions can match Australia ones the pitches are good for batting.

I've always had a lot of time for Jinks, but he really looks a busted flush right now.

Looks like it'll be overcast the whole Test so may be a low scorer. I've no idea about tosses, never did.

From an England perspective, I think Zak Crawley and Dan Lawrence are more likely to succeed and make runs in Australia than Pope or Hameed. Dunno if they will take that call though.

Hameed's low hands could be a problem, but I think he's shown a lot of mental fortitude in his career to suggest he could adapt. Who knows? We don't have many options. Crawley is really just an average county bat who dined out in one Test on a typically mercurial Pakistan bowling attack. Pope is a vastly better bat who needs to start to live up to his potential. I do like Lawrence, but he's still a work in progress. He can be disconcertingly aggressive and has 4 ducks in 15 innings (including 3 in his last 6) - but he's 24 and it's not like Bairstow or Buttler are doing any better. What I would say though is that Lawrence has had a tough Test career so far - away to SL, India, and home to NZ, India. No gimmes.
