***Official*** 5th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester - 10th-14th of September

Can’t believe Root has said already that Butler will definitely play which means Bairstow or Pope missing out. This really is the old boys network raising its ugly head again.Butler has not contributed with the bat for over a year and his keeping is average. We really do need an overhaul of who picks the team. When do Root and Silverwood watch the county gameWe have consistently picked Butler and Moen although they never produce when needed.Maybe we need an overhaul at the top also and get rid of Giles. Why is Michael Vaughan not in some form of coaching .We have missed Straus big time

Maybe Buttler comes in for Ali you never know

As for the part in bold, because he can make easy money being an ass**** on Twitter

I suspect Buttler's stats at 6 are working in his favour. Saying that they don't seem to be looking at stats for players like Woakes, Ali and Pope is a number 6.

Whatever it takes!!!
So a day and a bit to go for the test. What do you think the XIs will be and what do you think the XIs should be?

The likely XIs IMO -

IndiaEngland
Rohit SharmaRory Burns
KL RahulHaseeb Hameed
Che PujaraDawid Malan
Virat Kohli (c)Joe Root (c)
Ajinkya Rahane / Hanuma VihariJonny Bairstow / Ollie Pope
Rishabh Pant (wk)Jos Buttler (wk)
Ravindra JadejaMoeen Ali
Shardul ThakurChris Woakes
Umesh YadavMark Wood
Mohammed ShamiOllie Robinson
Mohammed Siraj / Ravi AshwinJames Anderson / Jack Leach

What I would play -

IndiaEngland
Rohit SharmaRory Burns
KL RahulHaseeb Hameed
Che PujaraDawid Malan
Virat Kohli (c)Joe Root (c)
Ravindra JadejaOllie Pope
Surya Kumar YadavJonny Bairstow (wk)
Rishabh Pant (wk)Moeen Ali
Ravi AshwinChris Woakes
Shardul ThakurMark Wood
Umesh YadavJack Leach
Mohammed ShamiJames Anderson

I wont change the balance of this Indian side even if all of Rohit, Pujara and Shami are still injured. I would just replace them with Mayank, Vihari and Prasidh Krishna.

Last 10 years bowling average of spin bowlers here is 42 iirc.
Root himself suggested pitch can take spin. And the pictures so far suggest a very brown, likely flat track. I would rather play 2 spin options to help with long spells.

BCCI has released gun squad for WT20 yesterday.
Dhawan Chahal have been left out.
Kishan Rahul Chahar & Varun C Ashwin have got in. Only issue is Lord Thakur is in standby.

I think they'll allow Rahane to see out the series. This isn't some dead rubber where you can debut someone under no pressure, and he adds value as VC and a slip fielder. Plus Che Pu just found his mojo again last game so who knows, maybe this is the match where Rahane finds his.

I don't see Ishant returning to the attack either, so at most I can see them dropping Siraj for Ashwin or Shami. Umesh and Bumrah bowled too well, Jaddu is a lock, and can't drop Thakur after what he did last game. If SKY or Agarwal plays it will be because India goes in with 4 bowlers.

don't think we will make too many changes, even if someone from the 4th test is not fit, which happened after lords where we played a half fit ishant

pujara
kohli
jadeja
rahane

From an England perspective, I think Zak Crawley and Dan Lawrence are more likely to succeed and make runs in Australia than Pope or Hameed. Dunno if they will take that call though.

Pope did well in South Africa... His stroke making perhaps will be key there.
