OK, so what's changed? The kids coming through sure aren't Kane Williamson or anything even close.

Why the hell isn't Todd Astle in this squad? I mean, at least Chapman played for NZ last summer (although I agree, he should be there playing). Pardon me, Todd Astle played one T20 in April. Todd Astle (and Chapman unless I'm wrong) hasn't been involved in overseas cricket that involves quarantine. I'm sure these guys want to play for NZ, especially on these decks. You're right, it's absolutely bizarre that those guys aren't in this tour given they were picked for the World Cup. If there's four seamers on the bench, that means there's seven in the squad. Eight if you count CdG. And three spinners. All 4 squad members on the bench last night were seamers.
Chriiiiiiiiiiist ....
Poor fellas.
No chance of winning even one game, I'd propose, with 8 overs of seam per match to get serve up.
If wanting to try and win, change would be Kuggs for Tickner as a specialist batting number 9. Dont let him near the bowling crease. While Sears and Bennett dont get a single match.
Obviously that wont happen though.
Even with their self imposed selection limitations, this a stupidly balanced squad.
Obvious replacement for Allen would have been Chapman leaving 2 weeks earlier than he'd planned.
Chapman and Astle should have been in this squad anyway, for 2 of the seamers. I dont know what knots the players union have tangled themselves up in, but these 2 normally fringe squad members should be getting some actual games. No burnout, the 2 months from now to October will be the only blackcaps cricket they play all season, why artificially restrict it by a third? The Bangladesh quarantine requirements didn't sound very tough, so not a big mental health barrier.
I think he would have been effective. He's a reasonable bat and in these conditions his bowling would have been fine.Larsen may actually believe Michael Bracewell has got an outright bowling edge on Somerville now. The Plunket Shield stats wouldn't lie on such a thing.
Wellington Firebirds all-rounder Michael Bracewell would have been selected for the Bangladesh T20s and Pakistan ODIs, but made himself unavailable as he awaits the birth of his first child.
That is true from what I heard as well. Something of a clause that you can't have the same players being in more than two series at a stretch overseas. Each player can only be part of two consecutive back to back overseas tour. Nzc hands are tied. Those 2 will be in the Pakistan segment of the tour.
Going by what Hutt Rec said re: a Neesham source. It seems NZCPA prevented any of the T20WC squad playing in this segment of tour.
Which for Astle and Chapman is stupid, as at least one of these guys will struggle for game time in UAE, and maybe even the Pak segment (if I could remember who else is in tour party by then).
Well participation in secondary school cricket has declined 50% since Kane’s time. Doesn’t necessarily contribute directly to a loss in player quality, as many of the kids dropping out would be those who aren’t particularly talented, but it certainly doesn’t help. The stats would suggest it’s trending towards becoming a game for South Asian and South African immigrants at the high school level.OK, so what's changed?
I dont know their circumstances or thoughts, but ... Chapman and Astle should be wondering why they bother to pay their union subs. That is true from what I heard as well. Agreed. Not to mention they don't get paid etc. I presume the premise is they don't want anyone going through more rigmarole of quarantine in different countries etc. I just don't get it for someone like Todd Astle or Mark Chapman who would be jumping out of their skin to play international cricket, especially the former who quit the long form.I dont know their circumstances or thoughts, but ... Career hobbling inflexibility.
Best conditions Astle would ever get in his career (although they are so helpful the team would be better off with just a no frills finger spinner ).
50%? Wow. That's massive. Wonder what the predominant factor is - more of a squeeze on time with families working longer hours, dominance of private schools etc. There’s only one KW and I somewhat doubt whether we’ll ever produce another player like him.

Yeah Neesham also said he requested an exemption to play this tour, but was denied. So it does seem very inflexible. Those 2 will be in the Pakistan segment of the tour.

Time and more alternatives is definitely the big factor. Also the cost of equipment too probably. Basketball has exploded at the high school level over the past 20 years. Don’t know what format of cricket is played at high school anymore, and whether there needs to be mor of a focus on shorter formats to encourage participation.50%? Wow. That's massive. i wouldn't bother. you'll notice he only shows up when there's a sufficient gap to bang on about conspiracy theories and south african parenting. he was nowhere to be seen when we won the WTC final.OK, so what's changed?
I don't watch BPL, but this Mirpur pitch is doctored as ****, yes. Never seen it prepared like this for white ball cricket. The ODI pitches are usually slow and low but they don't turn anywhere near as much as this.Just looked at the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Wikipedia page. The scores seem more like normal T20 scores. In the last 3 seasons the winning sides in the final (all batting 1st) have scored 206/1 (2017/18), 199/3 (2018/19), and 170/4 (2019/20). Different pitches?
That’s really sad and disappointing to hear. It’s not going to lead to good development for Bangladesh players, and these types of games are hardly going to excite new fans and grow the game, either.I don't watch BPL, but this Mirpur pitch is doctored as ****, yes. oh wow they bet an unbalanced A team on a pitch that suits them, what an achievement. If NZ had their full bowling attack they could've rolled Ban for 50 on that deck. What steps are SENA countries taking to be competitive in the SC? Maybe B'desh don't care about being world-beaters; maybe all they're after is humiliating SENA teams at home. Last I checked a loss on the SC still registers as a loss in the ICC registers. I wouldn't be so concerned with their trophy cabinet just yet; for all you know they might kick NZ out of Sharjah too.
sending second XIs to bangladesh to see how they go under heavy fire. What steps are SENA countries taking to be competitive in the SC?
Why is there a need for another KW? We already have one and he is irreplaceable. Doesn't mean we won't have many more gun players coming. They don't have to be KW, if they are themselves that'll be great. We don't need another KW or Rosco. I have lot more hope now in all departments than I did 20 years ago. There’s only one KW and I somewhat doubt whether we’ll ever produce another player like him.

Same... never heard a single good word about any player. I see the trend. Sure we lost the game last night but there were fair bit of positives if you look at it. Our bowling was top notch. There were no hit me balls. Cole bowled really well barring the last ball, Jazzy was outstanding, Duffy was quite good and knew what he needed to from ball one, Ravindra went for couple boundaries but then those were good shots not **** balls. You have to see the bowling in isolation and acknowledge batting was way below par perhaps. Every time the ball was hit in the air our guys got out. It won't happen every game that way, just one of those days.i wouldn't bother. you'll notice he only shows up when there's a sufficient gap to bang on about conspiracy theories and south african parenting. he was nowhere to be seen when we won the WTC final.
