It would be amazing. He'd basically know nothing about any of the opposition players.
Once they bowled medium pace or finger spin, or batted for an hour and had a strike rate of <45, he'd declare they were absolute **** though, no doubt.

I actually like how he doesn't hold back bagging shithouse players on commentary, and I even don't mind how he occassionally drags good non-Australian players into that because it amusingly exposes his ignorance. So overall I enjoy his commentary. He would be an awful coach though.

He's fine for commentary. I would even say he's great to have there. Sure it's good to have knowledgeable and insightful people on there but too many commentators shy away from anything even remotely controversial (eg. Gilchrist, Hussey) and in the end just don't really offer any opinions on anything.

We need more of a regular joe who just comes on and talks **** about the players. Now I'm not saying Mark Waugh is ignorant or anything, I'm sure he has some very good insights, but he's more honest and has less of a filter which I appreciate.

Haha yeah totally agree.

He's a good cricket analyst of the game he's watching doesn't know **** about players too. And I love his savage takedowns even when they're wrong. Sometimes even especially when they're wrong.

100% agree, this is why I love punter so much. Brings alot of perspective but yes also not afraid to tear into **** when he needs to. Remember him absolutely going off on the heat during the dan sams 65 game last bbl.

And the man knew before anyone else that Abbott could bat, and a man has never been more right about anything than Junior was about that

so the thing now appears to be discussing whether to remove core elements of the coach's job (selecting teams, being a public figure). seems to me that if your coach can't do those things, you should probably sack them and get someone else in.

i think i prefer punter and clarke for their bluntness over waugh, because waugh often sounds like he's having a sook. he'll bag the tourists when they're behind and whine when they're in front.

ponting and clarke are smart so even if i don't agree with them i still respect them and enjoy what they have to say.

i've actually enjoyed getting some emotion out of hussain lately too, though it's probably bad for him if england are being such memes he's finally cracking...

edit - commentary doesn't translate to coaching though. everyone feared the worst when craig mcmillan became a batting coach but he was actually fair enough at it. communicating behind a microphone is a completely different skill to communicating with players, and often commentators have broadcaster orders on how to act too.

I know you guys bemoan the lost generation of Aussie bats who could never get past Ricky Ponting and several Waughs, but who cares, let's discuss the Australian Current XI vs Australian Guy XI. Who wins?

David Warner
Will Pucovski
Marnus Labuschagne
Steve Smith
Matthew Wade
Cameron Green
Tim Paine
Pat Cummins
Mitchell Starc
Josh Hazlewood
Nathan Lyon

Chris Rogers
Ed Cowan
Usman Khawaja
Shaun Marsh
Marcus North
Moises Henriques
Graham Manou (I needed a keeper, and Tim Paine is pretending he belongs in the other XI)
Nathan Hauritz
Ben Hilfenhaus
Michael Kasprowicz
Doug Bollinger

there's 1 and a half test quality bats in that lineup, current lineup could field a batting lineup of 7 mitch marsh's and still win because they get ao for 50

That Aussie Guys XI is truly awful. Kasprowicz and Rogers a bit out of place, they were very good cricketers.

I don't think the coach should be a selector. Maybe on tour, but nowadays that's not really necessary either.

Ashwin would love bowling at that Guy XI.. Is every Australian Guy batsman always a leftie?
Even a Aus XI v pretend Aus XI discussion has to have Ashwin in it. This is the sort of posting which led to the Tendulkar vs Mangoes thread years ago, except Tendulkar always got a game for his side.

You can't even get your memes right.

The answer, like for every thread, is always Jaddu.
