Is there gonna be a sub-forum for the WT20?

https://www.cricket.com.au/news/aus...smith-maxwell-starc-cummins-inglis/2021-08-19

Aaron Finch (c), Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins (vc), Josh Hazlewood, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Swepson, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa. Travelling reserves: Dan Christian, Nathan Ellis, Daniel Sams
While Inglis being in isn't a surprise for anyone who's been watching domestic form, the fact they've actually completely ditched Carey for him is a big shock.

Just looking on statsguru, and apparently finch has batted at 5 or below 5 times in his t20I career and has 145 runs without ever being dismissed. Considering his shotty form recently, could it be worth going with something like

1.Warner
2.Inglis
3.Marsh/Smith
4.Maxwell
5.Stoinis/Finch
6.Finch/Stoinis

As the top 6? I know inglis has come into the side to play middle order, but realistically he's top scored in the t20 blast as an opener and was london spirit's top scorer in the 100 in the same spot, also dominated the bbl 2 years ago opening. Made runs at 4 last bbl, so clearly he can bat lower order, just feel that based on recent performances giving him chance to develop up top and letting finch go down the order would suit the team better.

Could even go

1.Warner
2.Inglis
3.Marsh/Finch
4.Maxwell
5.Stoinis
6.Finch
7.Dan the Man
8.Agar
9.Starc
10.Zampa
11.Haze

Marsh has been great with the ball recently, was our best bowler in west indies, him as the 5th option+stoinis/maxy/dan to role the arm over also means we don't have to worry about the nosebleed that is agar at 7.

Marsh and Smith both have to play, even if one of them has to bat 4. Don't mind the idea of Finch in the middle order at all, it's worked before

Also agree that Agar at 7 is too high. Pundits will tell you that a no. 7 in T20s rarely has to bat much but the difference a stronger 7 makes to team balance and constructing an innings as a team is significant

100% agree, I'm aware that the #7 faces an average of 5 balls an innings or something like that, and aybe it was because our lineup was so batting weak in the bangladesh and west indies series, but it felt like our #8 and below was facing WAY to many balls, and agar was continually getting out for jack ****, aside from that run a ball 20 he made in the dan Christiansen 30 run over game.

On the topic of marsh and smith, not sure how I feel about smith honestly. His numbers at #3 in t20I's are fantastic and all, but he's averaged 24.4 in his past 2 ipl season's at 125, one of which was in the uae, and averaged 27 in t20I's over 3 series during that window without a 50. Just don't think smith's form in t20 has been good enough in recent time to auto demand a spot, and marsh was great in the bangladesh/windies series on pitches very similiar to what i'de assume we'll be seeing in the uae, and his bowling allows us to have a #7 who can bat, whether that be sams (bring in ellis for haze in that circumstance) or dan the man.

Smith would still be just about the first name on the team sheet for me

I would do something a little funky with the batting line-up and open with Maxwell or Smith.

Warner
Maxwell/Smith
Maxwell/Smith
M.Marsh
Finch
Stoinis
Inglis
Agar/Cummins
Starc
Zamps
Haze

I like that but bat Maxi at 4. MMarsh made his runs at 3. Let him stay there. Maxi found his niche at RCB batting at 4.

Unless it's full Narine meme I really do think your top three or four in T20Is should justify their spots on batting alone. There's such a big difference in this format between the impact the top order has compared to the lower middle order that I don't like the semi-funky selections of allrounders and keepers up top unless they'd make the side based solely on their batting.

I was happy for Finch to go down to 5 when the selectors were trying to get Short and/or Lynn into the lineup, but with their failures I think I'd keep him up top. Opening with Smith is an interesting option though; that could leave a top five of: Warner, Smith, Marsh, Maxwell, Finch.

I don't mind Agar at 7 in theory. It's correct to say that it didn't work out in Bangladesh but those pitches are not exactly typical in T20Is. The bigger problem IMO is that the keepers have been dire. If Inglis at 6 works out then Agar at 7 is fine, but if the keeper is going to be a spud then the keeper himself probably needs to be at 7, and Agar at 6 would be no good.

You don't think Maxwell is making the team for his batting? The guy with 3* T20I hundreds?

*I think
