Whatever it takes!!!
How do you guys figure out the pot scores?

Also, I recruited this guy based off a scouting report. Thoughts?

The report showed a batting average of 40+ but this page shows he has not played any games. Why?

Scouts are unreliable; many players, such as the guy you recruited, have supposedly good averages but poor potentials. Just because your scouts give you someone with a good batting average doesn't mean that they are any good. New recruits haven't played any games, the averages are just there to show (oft inaccurately) the strength of the player.

Aashman is 6 skilled in shot selection, 5 in defence and 7 in attack. He has 8 shot selection potential, 8 defence potential, and 11 attack potential. 8 + 8 + 11 = 27, which isn't good enough. Generally you should be looking for players with 37+ potential, preferably 40+.

Hope this helps.

The T20 vs ZCC went pretty poorly for me. 131 wasn't enough of a target, and Raun did Raun things. I wasn't too far off from exposing a weak tail though.

Meanwhile Schmaltzberg are cruising. 110/0 halfway through their SOD innings.

Just 6 pops this week. Shingirai Ndaba proving my decision to keep him was justified, a couple of pops for him. Shaffrey going to 14 captain, Winton to 28 bat are the ones that affect my playing XI's performance. Back to coaching a coach.

Yea the averages you see on the report are supposed to be the player's junior cricket record (or something like that). They are supposed to correlate to skill level (higher batting average should = higher skill), but not always, and the potential level is then calculated right after that. So it's like two rolls of the dice, with both dice tilted slightly in the favour of players with better averages. But it's not a guarantee. Key point.

when we talk about 'Total Batting/Bowling' it's the sum of the 3 main skills in either discipline. So total batting is the sum of the Shot Selection, Attack and Defence. Bowling is Accuracy, Movement, Variation. Then there is a difference between skill and potential. Skill is their actually current ability, potential is where they can reach with enough training and game time.

As ataraxia said, your long term plan should be to have a squad full of high-potential players. These will then become high skilled players. You also need to mindful of your team balance, home pitch conditions, finances, and succession planning (what to do when your star players turn 30 and their skills begin to decline).

It was a good game. Your home pitch is similar to ours, so the team was pretty optimised for it. We bowled well in the powerplay and at the death, and then Raun took the game away. Jalal is a ZCC T20 HOF'er IMO, put in another good performance there.

A completely different ZCC XI could be in for a steep chase in home conditions. The conditions were really good for new ball bowling, but Kurusumuttu and Msomi saw it off excellently with a 116 run opening partnership. But we have since bounced back. Manning batted well but wickets kept falling at the other end, and they are now 223/7 with just 11 balls to go.

I tried to balance both XIs to make them equal in strength, but also optimise them for the conditions and format. Both teams rated 53k, and hopefully the both come out with wins :) India-esque depth.

Big top order misfires in the chase, and we're bowled out for 181. Congrats Magz, solid win for Schmaltzberg there.

1-1 today with a friendly vs HH to come. Can the Dev boys help us end today on a winning note?

16 pops again. Mostly the young inexperienced batsmen. Unfortunately Mthombeni had no pops in the wk. We remain hopeful for next week!

The Hunks scored 283/9 in their 50 overs. Nalin Mittur with another excellent innings.

Steep chase for the Dev boys away from home here. Let's see how they go.
