Haha I thought of that too. That game had also had an anderson feud with an Indian player. And it ended with him getting dismissed by him at the end. Jadeja on that occasion, bumrah/siraj this time.
Now Im thinking about it, that Lords game also had some truly abysmal bowling tactics from England where they pissed away a good position. Cook and Root's captaincy was seriously bad in both these games. Lot of parallels here.

I don't remember the bowling tactics being bad per se so much as Broad and Anderson completely pissing the new ball away by bowling short and wide on a pitch so green it was barely distinguishable from the rest of the square. It can't have been deliberate.

Like, India really should not have gotten to triple figures in that first innings, let alone post a competitive score.

Sorry for Root to have to end on the losing side but he's directly responsible for the shambles today morning. Those field settings in that situation by a SC team not too long ago would've raised a few eyebrows. In this case it was just incredibly brainless cricket.

It was if he'd watched Paine's captaincy down here and thought "well, it didn't work there, maybe if I tried it, then..."

Cook had plunkett bowling leg side bumpers both innings to the lower order haha. India shouldnt have got past 250 in either innings.

Yeah there's been a lot of complaints about Root's captaincy, and today rightly so, but I'd still rate it well ahead of what we got regularly from Cook.

What an great win. Incredible test match from beginning to end.

Siraj is an absolute beast. Has bowled so, so well in 3 completely different conditions in such a short career.

4 bowler pace attack without an all rounder is almost never advisable but it’s epic when they all come together like this to blow out a team and win a test match in 2 sessions.

Imagine if that spell of boneheaded bowling costs England the game. It was such a crucial time of the game and their emotions got the better of them. England still have the upper hand though.
Short balls, revenge, blah blah blah:p

How crucial was that short phase of the game when Bumrah and Shami had just come to the crease and the English bowlers were more interested in intimidating them with body line bowling instead of getting them out. They fired up the entire bowling unit with the on-field chatter too.

Headingley for the Bank Holiday weekend should be a belter. We really need a win there as surely at least one of the September Tests will fall victim to the rain

Massive respect for Bumrah who has clearly spent a lot of time improving his batting in the last year when he could’ve been lazy about it as our first choice pacer.
