I think a big part of it is that he doesn't really have a standard dismissal method. He bowls a little too short to target the stumps/lbw, and he tends to move it into the right-hander so he's not nicking a lot of them out. Batsmen rarely seem to be finding him easy to face, but the types of mistakes he forces aren't the ones that often get you out. What do we reckon the reason is Wood doesn't get enough wickets? Does he bowl too often in the "unlucky" length?
He's really, really sharp.
Yes, I think there's something in this.; whereas when he was first picked in 2018 it was off the back of a batch of performances in the County Championship. But that isn't very likely to change, unfortunately. On Sam Curran - I juz think he is rusty from not playing enough FC, personally. Being an all-formats player means he is not really getting to practice his long format bowling often enough IMO.
Loving the hair and beard thoHameed has looked really awkward in the field all test and yet he still fielding at point which is supposed to be a more difficult position.
Interesting analysis. I was thinking that being only 6'0 - short for a fast bowler - is a pretty significant disadvantage for him. IMO being a pace merchant hitting the deck hard isn't that effective unless you're tall enough to get steep bounce to test the edge.I think a big part of it is that he doesn't really have a standard dismissal method. Will be interesting to see how he goes to a couple of left-handers here. It's a bit clearer what he's trying to do.
England are just short of players who can do a decent job in the slip to point cordon.Hameed has looked really awkward in the field all test and yet he still fielding at point which is supposed to be a more difficult position.
Yeah, there's pros and cons to every player tbhLoving the hair and beard tho
Yeah I think you might be on to something here too.Interesting analysis. I was thinking that being only 6'0 - short for a fast bowler - is a pretty significant disadvantage for him. And I don't think being able to get skid as an alternative is worth much. Bounce is a far more potent weapon. And actually, while I'm on the topic, from the admittedly small exposure I've had I think Saqib Mahmood is going to make a very, very average international bowler. He seems to do nothing with it off the seam, isn't particularly tall and for a "fast bowler", isn't actually that fast.
Disclaimer: I just really hate "hit the deck hard" type bowlers, so there's a very good chance I'll continue to say the same things even if Mahmood gets 300 wickets.
Do you also agree that hitting the deck hard is the lowest form of bowling?Yeah I think you might be on to something here too.
Wtf, just looked this up. Dale Steyn is the same height as meI don't think he has skid either. The obvious example of a good skiddy bowler is Steyn, whose height meant he targeted the stumps at a length where most bowlers would be going over the top.
Kinda yeah. I think it's mostly just a cliché people use to describe bowlers with no other strengths.Do you also agree that hitting the deck hard is the lowest form of bowling?
I even thought Ntini was crap. All 390 wickets of him.
